ZX Spectrum SCR to PNG Converter
Scratching my own itch. I had to do this for showing information on ZX Spectrum games. So thought I'd turn it into a useful tool for other people to use.
In plain words
ZX Spectrum SCR to PNG Converter transforms screenshot files from ZX Spectrum games into PNG image format. The tool was created to help display ZX Spectrum game information and is designed for retro gaming enthusiasts, developers, and archivists who need to convert and share classic computer game screenshots in modern formats.

Hi everyone, I build some "online" converters as a side project in the last weeks. The difference to existing conversion websites is, that my converters don't upload your files. Everything happens in your browser on your device (with the help of a lot of great Open Source Javascript libraries). I think privacy is an essential feature for a service like this, so my converters also don't use google analytics or any other form of tracking (in fact they use no external resources at all). I started this because I ended up with some .heic files from my iPhone and had to use ImageMagick every time…

Hey HN I built ImageConverter.dev because I got tired of “free” image converter sites that force uploads, or throttle conversions. So I made a tool that runs 100% client-side — meaning your images never leave your device. It’s built for speed, simplicity, and privacy. What it does Convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP Works offline once loaded (PWA support) How it works It uses the Canvas API and WebAssembly to handle conversions directly in the browser. There’s no upload, no tracking, no server costs, and it’s fast even on mid-range devices. Why I built it I wanted an instant, no-ads,…

Hey HN! I made How to Convert. Here's the problem I had and the solution I thought of: Problem When you search "How to convert PNG to ICO" on Google, you get a bunch of shady looking "free" results that send your data to unknown servers. The same is true for almost any conversion you are trying to do. So what do I want? I want something I can trust completely. AKA locally running, doesn't send my files or data anywhere and built by an independent developer building in public. Solution How to Convert Privacy-first: Files stay on your device and it works offline. Wide compatibility: Works with…

Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…
