Hey , So I’ve been working on a platform called Kage that helps developers sell, secure, and scale their self-hosted software. Self-hosted products are powerful, but getting paid for them, while keeping deployments secure and compliant, is a challenge. With Kage, you can: - Sell: Automatic licensing, renewals, and usage-based billing. - Secure: Prevent unauthorized use, even for enterprise deployments. - Scale: AI-powered deployment that lets customers get started with one click. I built Kage because I saw too many developers struggle to capture the value of their work. I'd love your…

hey guys. the other day i was migrating hosting providers and i just needed something not too heavy and convenient to spin up my backups for awhile and realised there is almost nothing out there. kimchi hasn't been updated for years and cockpit is heavy. so here's something i came up with in a couple hours because of a sudden urge, nothing fancy just basic creation with cloud init, lifecycle management and image/storage, but it's modern-ish and it compiles to a 8.4mb binary inclusive of the embedded web UI, CLI and API, and only dep is libvirt.

Hi HN, I am Max and I am building QuickDeploy! It lets you deploy web applications of all sorts to your VPS with one command! Here is a little showcase of the tool itself: https://youtu.be/Feauj4OaePg Under the hood quickdeploy detects the language and framework you use, so e.g. Next.js and then creates a Docker image. After that it starts the container and waits until it is in a healthy state before using a reverse proxy to redirect traffic to the app. Added benefit is the use of your own domain with instant https! I am super happy with the result and the ease of use. After…

Seven years in the making (I admit that I did get a kid at some point which slowed down progress and brought it to a halt quite a few times), I decided to finaly release it, with a rather drastic change to the now (I believe) generous licensing model. Unlike current major players in this field, I decided to go with uncrippled, free version for commercial use for corps with up to 1M USD ARR. I poured my heart and soul into this, not because I was looking for financial success, but because I felt it just had to be done, given the price hikes wherever you look today. While my wife and kid were…

Hi HN, We’re building Mist, a lightweight, self-hosted PaaS for running and managing applications on your own servers. We started Mist because we wanted a middle ground between raw VPS management and heavy, all-in-one platforms. Existing PaaS solutions often felt too complex or resource-intensive for small servers, homelabs, and side projects. We wanted something that keeps the PaaS experience but stays simple and predictable. Our goals with Mist are: - A simple PaaS to deploy and manage apps on your own infrastructure - HTTPS, routing, and app access handled automatically - Low resource…

I've been building a cli for my homelab/self-hosted setup. The original motivation was getting tired of stitching together deployments, monitoring, remote SSH access and random scripts. It’s a open source CLI, all-in-one tool for monitoring, secure remote accces (tunnel and terminal), log forwarding, automated deployments. No exposed ports, or endpoint, everything is configurable how the user wants it. One use case that multiple friends are interested in is replacing HomeAssistant’s Nabu Casa subscription with tunneling through BeaconInfra. The cloud/control-plane part…

There are plenty of ways to deploy your apps. PaaS options like Vercel or Netlify are convenient but can get pricey as projects scale. VPS hosting is cheaper, but setting it up (Linux, networking, SSL, etc.) can be daunting. That’s why glueh-wyy-huet (https://github.com/glueh-wyy-huet) and I (https://github.com/biersoeckli) built QuickStack during our bachelor studies at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. QuickStack simplifies deployment by letting you deploy directly from a Git repo or Docker registry to any VPS. It’s free, open source, and…
