Products that do what A cross platform desktop installer maker project does

Hello, I have been working on a desktop app as a side project for which I needed an installer kit. I looked at some existing ones for different platforms. Felt, it benefits to have a cross platform desktop installer builder which is flexible enough to code your UI and actions (non declarative style). I have also added Github actions (sourced from Tauri) to automatically generate installer files for all macos, win and linux. Here is an effort towards it. Please share your thoughts: https://github.com/krishnakumar4a4/desktop-installer-maker

Hi, I'm a developer and first time i shipped the real product after observing the startups and indie hackers community for years. I had made so many useless apps [you should check my website https://ansh.life], but this time I built a very useful product that has a number of super easy-to-use tools in one app for video, music, and photo files. Users can compress, convert, resize, and do so much more with easy-to-use tools. Background: I developed a frame-by-frame video cropper to upload cropped landscape videos to Instagram Reels. However, it required FFmpeg, and as a noob video…

Hi HN! If you've ever tried to build a desktop app, you probably understand our frustrations with how challenging it is to build one and make it available on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Even with Electron, you still have to set up your own build pipelines, updating mechanisms, code-signing, deployments, and deal with cross-platform compatibility issues. We built EXT to make building cross-platform desktop software easier! Dog-fooding our own APIs, we ported 36 initial games and utilities to the EXT store (all free), and we've open-sourced all of them: https://github.com/extpkg If…

I've created a GitHub Action for running commands on multiple platforms. This includes platforms that GitHub Actions don't natively support. It currently supports FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD. OpenBSD can run on x86-64 and ARM64, the other operating systems run on x86-64. Some of the features that are supported include: * Multiple operating system with one single action * Multiple versions of each operating system * Allows to use default shell or Bash shell * Low boot overhead * Fast execution * Runs on both macOS and Linux runners Compared to similar solutions like…

I kept seeing people making macOS apps for their one-off use cases and automations. I thought surely the hassle of paying for an Apple dev account and fighting with code signing and notarization would be a deterrent for most people. Viberunner is a container environment that lets you build macOS apps with simple prompts. You can run the apps in a new tab, a new window, or even as a system menu bar app. You can create things like: - a clipboard manager - an image redactor - a note-taking tool that saves a daily note to a folder on your desktop - a desktop organizer that cleans up your…

TLDR: I made a community where you can find builders or product owners to collab on sideprojects together with <3 A year ago i completed my first sideproject, a digital course on how to "cold email a chief information security officer". I thought and think its a great course, but of course I fell into all the traps (didnt verify a need, i thought id make it and everyone would buy automatically), i tested google ads but hated nerding on that, so i decided to find a marketing person to partner up with! But i knew no one! That got me thinking how many people with relevant knowledge that isnt…

Hey, we’ve been working on an open-source project built on top of Comfy for the last few weeks. It is still very much a work in progress, but I think it is at a place where it could start to be useful. The idea is that you can turn a workflow into a web app with an easy-to-use UI. Currently, it should work with any workflows that take images and text as input and return images. We are aiming to add video support over the next few days. Feedback and contributions are more than welcome!
