Hey HN, Henry and Roman here - we've been building a cross-platform framework for deploying LLMs, VLMs, Embedding Models and TTS models locally on smartphones. Ollama enables deploying LLMs models locally on laptops and edge severs, Cactus enables deploying on phones. Deploying directly on phones facilitates building AI apps and agents capable of phone use without breaking privacy, supports real-time inference with no latency, we have seen personalised RAG pipelines for users and more. Apple and Google actively went into local AI models recently with the launch of Apple Foundation Frameworks…

Lately, I've been tinkering with llama.cpp and the ollama server. The speed of these tools caught my attention, even on my modest 4060 setup. I was quite impressed with the generation quality of models like Mistral. But I was a bit unhappy at the same time because whenever I explore a topic, there is a lot of typing involved when using the chat interface. So I needed a tool to not only give a response but also generate a set of "suggestions" which can be explored further just by clicking. My experience in front-end development is limited. Nonetheless, I tinkered together a small web app to…

Hi HN, I'm excited to introduce OllaMan, a desktop application designed to streamline your workflow with Ollama local AI models. If you're already using Ollama, you've likely experienced its power in running large language models (LLMs) locally. However, managing models, switching between them, and engaging in conversations often requires frequent command-line interaction, which can be inefficient and less intuitive for many users. OllaMan aims to solve these pain points by providing an intuitive and elegant graphical user interface (GUI), especially tailored for macOS users, adhering to…

I once went to live for a month in Chile, at a friend's place in Santiago where only a few people spoke English. At first I could hardly follow any conversation. I had studied Spanish for a few months using Babbel, which was a good foundation but also nowhere close to really preparing me for this experience. It was difficult. I choked up, froze, constantly looked for the right words to say – it was impossible to have good conversations and form deeper connections. That’s why for the first few days, I resorted to listening and trying to figure out what people were saying. Most of the time I…
