Products that do what An OKLCH-based perceptually uniform color system/theme builder does
I've been using a version of this internally for a few months but decided to polish it a little to finally deploy it. It's a color system generator that creates accessible, perceptually uniform color palettes using the OKLCH space. It takes one seed (primary) color, generates relative key colors from multiple color harmony schemes (analogous, complementary, etc) that are then used to create 26-step color ramps each. Shades from the ramps are then used to generate semantic color roles, or can be used for creating custom palettes. All colors are gamut-mapped to the sRGB gamut with chroma…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

Hi HN, I’m Emil, the maker behind Palette. I’ve been tinkering with AI and colorization for about five years. This is my latest colorization model. It’s a text-based AI colorizer, so you can edit the colorizations with natural language. To make it easier to use, I also automatically create captions and generate filters. Let me know what you think. You can see some of my results on my reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/user/emilwallner/?sort=top

I worked on many apps where each customer needs their own branded theme. The problem is that you can't just shift hue and call it a day. Yellow at 50% lightness looks completely different from blue at 50%. That's why I built this library to generate perceptually uniform themes. Zero dependencies, runs at runtime, outputs CSS vars, Tailwind tokens, SCSS, or JSON. Ships with presets for shadcn/ui and MUI. try it out quickly: npx hextimate "#006677"

For this palette, I used recent advances in color science, which made perceptual design more accessible, to choose a set of colors (mainly for syntax highlighting) that have uniform luminance for less visually uneven, fluidly readable code, but at the same time maximally distinguishable hue and chroma. The background colors are based on natural (sun-)light and shade for a more pleasing look than equally neutral greys. For much more detailed info, including the construction, check out the repository. There’s also already a (bare-bones) VSCode extension, linked in the repository, but it could…
