24 alternatives to APYCalc.net
Hey HN! Maker here. I built APYCalc.net after getting frustrated with financial calculators that require email sign-ups and track your inputs. **Tech Stack**: • Vanilla JavaScript (no frameworks, no dependencies) • 100% client-side execution (calculations never hit a server) • No cookies, no analytics, no tracking • Hosted on Cloudflare Pages **How It Works**: All calculations use industry-standard formulas (e.g., APY = (1 + r/n)^n - 1). Your inputs are processed entirely in-browser via Web APIs. > **Why I Built This**: I compared 10 popular APY calculators with identical inputs.…

Quick background: I used to code. Studied it in school, wrote some projects, but eventually convinced myself I wasn't cut out for it. Too slow, too many bugs, imposter syndrome — the usual story. So I pivoted, ended up as an investment associate at an early-stage angel fund, and haven't written real code in years. Fast forward to now. I'm a Buffett nerd — big believer in compound interest as a mental model for life. I run compound interest calculations constantly. Not because I need to, but because watching numbers grow over 30-40 years keeps me patient when markets get wild. It's basically…

I spent 2 years building a personal finance simulatorfree tier, from $10.75/mo▲766Hey everyone! After another year of building as a solo dev on nights and weekends, I'm back with an update on this post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31083093. TL;DR - ProjectionLab (https://projectionlab.com) is a privacy-friendly personal finance planning tool where you can create financial plans that go beyond the standard online retirement calculators. And by popular request, it now supports self-hosting for Lifetime users! Something I'm grateful for is that our community here on HN is the difference between PL existing and not. There was actually a time…

I launched NumPad v1 on here a few years ago, and back then it wasn't much more than a thin CodeMirror wrapper around the calculator engine I'd written. Now I've rewritten it as a PWA that supports multiple documents, persists them to IndexedDB, and has a syncing service for paying customers. Syncing is handled by Automerge[1] under the hood, which should make it relatively easy to get document sharing working too. [1] https://automerge.org/

Ray▲298I've been using this daily for 4 months and figured others might find it useful. This is my first open source project so would love any feedback. Ray connects to your bank via Plaid, stores everything in an encrypted local SQLite database, and lets you ask questions about your finances in natural language. No cloud, no account, your data is stored on your machine. Before anything reaches the LLM, all PII is stripped — your name, companies, transaction details are redacted and replaced with tokens, then rehydrated locally in the response. The AI never sees who you are.

We just released an MCP server that lets Claude (or any MCP client) pull real-time and historical financial data: equities, options chains, crypto, FX, commodities, fundamentals, economic indicators, and 50+ technical signals. You can ask things like: “Plot NVDA’s RSI vs AMD’s over the past year.” “Show the yield curve shift since 2020.” “What are Apple’s recent earnings surprise trends? “Make a 3-statement model for ORCL.” Claude runs the requests, does the math, and returns the data or generates charts/models all inside the chat. Setup takes about a minute. You’ll need Claude Pro…

I’ve always found that online calculators tend to have bad UIs, especially on mobile. Most of the calculator websites I’ve come across use outdated and inconvenient ways of inputting data, or they format the results in confusing ways. I’ve noticed that fraction calculators (especially mixed fractions) are terrible to use, even on desktop. I haven’t built one of those yet, but it’s something I’m planning to tackle soon. This is a project I’ve always wanted to work on, but I’m relatively new to this space. So far, I’ve created a collection of simple calculators focused on math and finance. I’d…

Hi HN, I built CD Calculator – https://cd-calculator.net – a simple tool that helps people calculate interest returns on bank CDs (Certificates of Deposit). Most CD calculators online are either too basic, too outdated, or full of ads. I wanted to make something that's: - Clean and fast - Easy to use - Focused on accuracy With this tool, users can: - Enter principal, rate, and term to get instant results - Simulate compound interest monthly or annually - Copy results with one click Advanced features are coming soon, including: - Recurring deposits - Early withdrawal penalty…

I'm Canadian, live abroad, and my money is scattered across two countries, multiple currencies, banks, brokerages, real estate, and some private equity. No app could hold all of it, and none could answer a simple question like "what's my actual USD exposure?" Brisa pulls everything together (Plaid + manual accounts + real estate + PE, all multi-currency) and puts an AI on top that has my full financial picture in context. Instead of clicking through charts, I can just ask. Would appreciate any feedback!

Treasury AI▲20Hi HN! I'm excited to share that Treasury (https://treasury.sh) is now available on the iOS App Store. Treasury is a personal finance app I've been building, and we just opened up our public beta. We'd love your feedback. Currently, Treasury has a set of core building blocks that let you create financial setups as simple or as complex as you want. You can track your net worth, analyze spending, spot recurring transactions, and build budgets that actually match how you think about money. Download it from the App Store and let me know what you think.

It's at http://finkin.com. The goal is to allow a developer to sign up in seconds, and within minutes begin querying data. It runs under https and stores no access information. From http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1431583, I realized that all those types of sites are not tailored to developers like the other simple APIs around the web are (i.e. flickr). I made mine as simple as I thought possible. From http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1676458, I realized that eventually it should be a scalable model where you pay pennies per the # of requests you make. Right now it supports many…

I'm a university student and needed DeFi data for my project. CoinGecko's API pricing was way out of my budget (like, not even close). $35+/month just for high-granularity data – and that's not even minute-by-minute! So I did what any broke student would do – I started querying the blockchain directly instead. Turns out, going straight to the source is not only cheaper, but I could offer the same data for more than 50% less than traditional providers. So I built Qoery, a Python SDK that makes DeFi data actually affordable for students, indie devs, and anyone building side projects. What…

Hey HN! I built WhatIfInvest to make it easy to answer investing “what if” questions in an approachable way for both new and seasoned investors. With it you can simulate historical returns for stocks, ETFs, or crypto, backtest custom-weighted portfolios, visualize dollar-cost averaging strategies, and share results instantly with simple links Some examples you can try include seeing how Nvidia vs. Bitcoin performed over the last 10 years, how a classic 60/40 portfolio held up, or what dollar-cost averaging $100/month into SPY since 2010 would look like. I realize these comparisons…

Hi HN, I'm Nick Slaney and my team is building moneydevkit (https://moneydevkit.com). moneydevkit is the fastest way for anyone to add payments to their website. It's so fast, I just set the Website to Production Payments speed run WR (4:38.94). Check it out here, I bet you can't beat it (https://x.com/nickslaney/status/1991151978953789614). We started moneydevkit with the goal of making a payment product that anyone can use. With the rise of AI assisted development, the bar to create value online has never been lower, but a simple search of "stripe…
