Hey HN, as a former data analyst, I’ve been tooling around trying to get agents to do my old job. The result is this system that gets you maybe 80% of the way there. I think this is a good data point for what the current frontier models are capable of and where they are still lacking (in this case — hypothesis generation and general data intuition). I participated in the Nvidia + Vercel 2 hour hackathon in SF tonight, and built something I've wanted, but hadn't tried building. I implemented an MCP Server and VS Code extension to allow Claude Desktop to place breakpoints, step through code, and execute expressions (assuming language support). So you can ask it a question that requires actually stepping through the code and now it can actually do that - check values for you, etc. It's _definitely_ not perfect. Have improvements? Hey everyone! Like many data analysts and engineers, I love SQL and the dbt ecosystem. So it bothers me that we have to use separate tools for product analytics. We do our transformations, BI work, and ad-hoc queries in SQL, but when it's time to look at funnels and flows, we have to use (and procure) a separate platform like Mixpanel or Amplitude. This dbt package is a (very rough) start at fixing that. With it, you can create event streams and run funnel analyses via dbt[0]. More features like flows and retention are coming soon! I've been running Claude Code and Codex together every day. At some point I figured out you can use tmux to let them talk to each other, so I started doing that. I'm a C++ dev and do not find claude code work well with C++ toolchain like gdb and perf. The current version has integrations for gdb, clang-tidy, cppcheck, sanitizers, perf, benchmarking, compile DB navigation, Godbolt, symbolization, binary inspection, and decompilation. I posted this a few weeks ago and the server died under the traffic. Fixed that by adding an in-mem caching layer with Redis/valkey and added CloudFront caching for static content. Saw the remotion claude skills launch earlier, and honestly even though I was surprised how decent some of the results turned out to be I ended up never trying it out with claude code because I knew I'd have to setup remotion, bundler etc and if I was already doing it once I thought I might as well turn it into a site where anyone could just write messages and get a video without any prerequisites. Basically, all companies are pushing for AI because it's all over the news and they feel left behind but most people have no clue where to start. I think 90% of people (ie non coders) are sufficiently well served by using cowork instead of claude code or something similar.
