Hey HN! A few years ago, I left my cushy big tech job to make hardware. And made the device I always wanted - an automatic piano recorder! I usually play piano improvisationally, and manually hitting record never meshed well with that. But there are always moments I wish I recorded, and now they are! Hopefully it scratches a similar itch for some of you as well! A few of the tech details: * built on an esp32-s3 * custom injection molded enclosure * BLE comms, sd card storage, DS1302 RTC * android & ios apps with Flutter * Shadertoy vfx support for video sharing - Chip

Right, here's the thing: If you are using AirPods(or any Bluetooth headphones with a mic in fact) on Mac and something activates the mic(i.e. you Shazam a song), the sound will be interrupted momentarily and will return in very low quality. This is happening because Bluetooth can't handle both way high quality streaming and the bandwidth is decreased to make it work. It's a known issue and here's what Apple recommends to fix it: https://support.apple.com/en-hk/102217 Most of the time(unless you are on a Mac Mini/Studio/Pro), you have much higher quality…

Hi HN! I made Beatsync, an open-source browser-based audio player that syncs audio with millisecond-level accuracy across many devices. Try it live right now: https://www.beatsync.gg/ The idea is that with no additional hardware, you can turn any group of devices into a full surround sound system. MacBook speakers are particularly good. Inspired by Network Time Protocol (NTP), I do clock synchronization over websockets and use the Web Audio API to keep audio latency under a few ms. You can also drag devices around a virtual grid to simulate spatial audio — it changes the…

I have a large collection of music files gathered over the years, so I was sorely missing a decent offline music player that can serve as a frontend for the collection. I tried several Mac apps over the years, but since streaming music is mainstream now, there aren't good offline music players that meet my needs. So I spent the last 3 months building Petrichor! The idea is to solve my problem and learn Swift UI development along the way, while giving back to the community with this open-source project! Here's a list of features it has, with more getting added in future; - Everything you'd…
