Hi all! I normally work on the PyTorch project but I've been on baby leave for the past month, so I've been playing around with AI as a user rather than a framework implementor. I really liked the agent experience with Claude Code, but I couldn't really justify spending so many dollars on API costs for random side projects. I already pay for a Claude Pro subscription though, and it turns out you can simulate many of Claude Code's features with an MCP. If you have a Pro subscription, check this out! I think it really captures the Claude Code experience quite well, without forcing you to pay…

Basin MCP▲168tl;dr - try Basin AI with Cursor/Windsurf, instruction here (https://mcp.basin.ai), and use API key hackernews to gain access. Hey HN — I’m Henry, co-founder of Basin, and I wanted to share something we’ve been working on called Basin MCP, a kind of QA infrastructure for AI coding copilots like Cursor, Windsurf, etc. We built Basin because we kept noticing the same thing: agentic coding tools are great at generating code, but have no idea if the thing they built actually works — or even matches the original intent, and so they're prong to hallucinations. Basically, they have…

I've been building a tool that changes how LLM coding agents explore codebases, and I wanted to share it along with some early observations. Typically claude code globs directories, greps for patterns, and reads files with minimal guidance. It works in kind of the same way you'd learn to navigate a city by walking every street. You'll eventually build a mental map, but claude never does - at least not any that persists across different contexts. The Recursive Language Models paper from Zhang, Kraska, and Khattab at MIT CSAIL introduced a cleaner framing. Instead of cramming everything into…

FlowLens▲134Hi HN, We often run into this with coding agents like Claude Code: debugging turns into copy-pasting logs, writing long explanations, and sharing screenshots. FlowLens is an MCP server plus a Chrome extension that captures browser context (video, console, network, user actions, storage) and makes it available to MCP-compatible agents like Claude Code. You can try it here: https://magentic.ai/flowlens Any feedback—good, bad, or brutal—is welcome.

VibeShift MCP▲141Hi HN, We are the devs behind VibeShift. We have been building this MCP server to put AI coding assistants in an automatic feedback loop. They code, test, debug, fix everything until we have a fully working, secure code. It tests like a real user, copies network/console and logical errors to give them back to cursor. (1 min demo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN_RgQGa8B0) We felt this was the natural next step for AI coding assistants. And with new asynchronous assistants like codex, having a plug & play tester makes sure you don't have to spend time debugging and…

Hi HN! We just launched Codacy Guardrails, an IDE extension with a CLI for code analysis and MCP server that enforces security & quality rules on AI-generated code in real-time. It hooks into AI coding assistants (like VS Code Agent Mode, Cursor, Windsurf), silently scanning and fixing AI-suggested code that has vulnerabilities or violates your coding standards, while the code it’s being generated. We built this because coding agents can be a double-edged sword. They do boost productivity, but can easily introduce insecure or non-compliant code. One recent research team at NYU found that 40%…

Hi y'all. Been working on something that should've been made a long time ago imo. It compiles codebases into O(1) hashmaps that the agent queries to discover the structure of your code/answer questions/write code. It also does complete static analysis checks on any writes the agent makes. Don't take my word for it though. Here are the benchmarks: https://benzi.fly.dev/benchmark. on 2/20 tests, Claude Code (mostly Sonnet on one task) regressed or timed out. Benzi didn't because of course, it has a map it can query and not get lost in the sauce. On the other 18 it…

We built a Rust MCP server, which wraps the excellent headless terminal (HT)[1] to makes it available for agentic coding tools. Most agentic coding tools struggle with blocking, interactive terminal tools (all the boilerplate generator, infra CLI tools etc). This is because many existing CLI dev tools are built for humans and require interactive input. We built this so agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Memex, etc) can “see” and “interact” with terminals exactly like humans do. In our demo video [2], you'll see it operating vim/emacs just as a human would - selecting options,…

We built a reference MCP server that lets your editor/agent learn a codebase directly from source (signatures, types, AST, comments). Docs are optional. The reference impl runs on our open-source project’s codebase. Why we built it Docs are important, but they add another abstraction layer between your code and your users. Keeping them at the right quality is hard (especially at a startup), and LLM-generated docs are often mediocre until you invest real polish. Exposing code to the model in a structured way keeps answers grounded and current, and it’s always available. You can even…

Hi HN, I built mcp-tidy to solve a problem I kept running into with Claude Code. As I tried different MCP servers over the past few months, my ~/.claude.json accumulated servers I'd forgotten about. Claude Code loads all tool descriptions (built-in + MCP) into context, so unused servers add overhead you don't need. The tool is simple: three commands. - `mcp-tidy list` - see what's configured (global + per-project) - `mcp-tidy stats` - check actual usage from transcript logs - `mcp-tidy remove --unused` - clean up with automatic backup It parses the JSONL transcript logs in…

I built this because I got tired of watching Claude Code read through massive files just to find a few functions. Sourcerer lets AI agents search code semantically and grab exactly the code chunks they need instead of burning tokens on whole files. It uses tree-sitter to parse your codebase and creates a searchable index. So instead of "read auth.py (538 lines)", an agent can search for "user authentication logic" and get back just the relevant functions. Codebased combines Tree Sitter for code awareness (find functions, data structures, constants, etc. not just lines of code), full-text search using SQLite, and semantic search using OpenAI embeddings + FAISS. Despite being implemented in Python, supporting semantic search, making multiple API calls for embedding and re-ranking, it is faster than ripgrep for runng searches against the Linux kernel (takes ~1 second vs. ~2 seconds, obviously depends on system, temperature, time of day, tidal forces, etc.) Up next: - A Perplexity-like agent for interpreting results, making multiple follow-up…

I am Rohan, and I have grown really frustrated with CC's search and read tools. They use Haiku to summarise all the search results, so it is really slow and often ends up being very lossy. I built this MCP that you can install into your coding agents so they can actually access the web properly. Right now it can: - search the general web - search Reddit - read and scrape basically any webpage Install it: npx openalmanac setup The MCP is completely free to use. We have also built a central store where you can contribute things you learned while exploring. If you find something useful, you can…

I use Claude Code across multiple projects with different conventions and some shared repos just as it so happens to be the real world. Managing the config files (.claude/rules/, mcps.json, settings.json) by hand got tedious, so I built a local web UI for it. This one started out as claude-config but migrated to coder-config as I'm adding others (Gemini, AG, Codex, etc). Main features: - Visual editor for rules, permissions, and MCP servers - Project registry to switch between codebases - "Workstreams" to group related repos (frontend + API + shared libs) with shared context -…
