Hey HN, cofounder of Readwise here. We've been working on this cross-platform reader app for about 2 years, excited to finally share it in public beta. Hey everyone! In the last months I've been working on Unclutter, a modern reader mode browser extension. In contrast to all existing approaches, it unclutters articles by modifying their CSS instead of extracting the text content. This results in a more visually pleasing result that reuses the original article style. The idea is to remove friction so you use the reader mode more often. There are a few more features around saving articles automatically and taking highlights -- more details are on the website. The extension has about 400 active weekly users right now, mostly from organic web…

Well, I certainly tried. I had to, because it has a certain quirk inspired by "digital minimalism." The quirk is that it only allows you to fetch new articles once per day (or X days). Why? Let me explain... I want my internet content to be like a boring newspaper. You get it in the morning, and you read the whole thing while sipping your morning coffee, and then you're done! No more new information for today. No pings, no alerts, peace, quiet, zen, etc. But with that, I needed it to be able to fetch all articles from my hundreds of feeds in one sitting. This is where Zig and curl…

    RSS Brainâ–²139

I wrote an RSS reader called RSS Brain recently. The motivate is the current RSS readers either don't sort articles by priority, which makes it hard to read posts from HackerNews and Reddit, or sort it with some "smart" algorithm which I don't trust. I also like the Google News feature that can show related story from different source, but the sources are not configurable and the algorithm is not transparent either. So with RSS Brain, I implemented these features: * Recommend related articles from the feeds of your choice. It's backed by ElasticSearch and the algorithm is described on RSS…

I recently observed that majority of my family members and friends are not using ad blockers and reader mode for reasons suck as lack of knowledge about plugins & laziness. So their online reading experience is not pleasant as a result very less amount of them read anything including what i share. Its an attempt to give them clutter, tracker & ad free reading experience right off the bat.

Hey HN! I'm excited to share a tool I've been working on - a native Hacker News reader built with Rust and egui. Here's a screenshot: https://github.com/haojiang99/hacker_news_reader/blob/main/s.... As a daily HN reader, I've always struggled with keeping track of interesting posts I want to read later. Browser tabs pile up, bookmarks get forgotten, and I lose track of what I've already read. I needed a way to: 1. Browse HN efficiently (across all sections - hot, new, show, ask, jobs, best) 2. Quickly mark posts as "todo" for later reading 3. Mark posts as…
