This little project came about because I kept running into the same problem: cleanly differentiating sensor data before doing analysis. There are a ton of ways to solve this problem, I've always personally been a fan of using kalman filters for the job as its easy to get the double whammy of resampling/upsampling to a fixed consistent rate and also smoothing/outlier rejection. I wrote a little numpy only bayesian filtering/smoothing library recently (https://github.com/hugohadfield/bayesfilter/) so this felt like a fun and very useful first thing to…

Hey all, I just released v2.0.0 of FilterQL, a query language and TypeScript library. This version adds support for Operations, which allow you to transform the data after filtering. If you think this would be useful in a project you're working on, give it a try and let me know what you think!

Two weeks ago I was on my babymoon in Corfu, Greece. While in transit, I was overseeing a GSoC intern submit an important feature to my array database library, Xarray-SQL. He added `to_dataset()`, which completed the roundtrip between thinking of array data in a tabular model simultaneously as gridded rasters (the premise of the project is that every Nd array can be mapped to 2d, where orthogonal dims of the Nd array are just primary keys of a tabular representation). We discussed in chat, now that this feature existed, what demos could we make that would prove this data model works? With…

Hey HN! I got nerd-sniped by Bloom Filters this weekend, specifically for searching datasets with high "cardinality" (number of unique items). They're an _amazing_ data structure that, at a fixed size, tracks potential set membership. That means unlike normal b-tree indexes, they don't grow with the number of unique items in the dataset. This makes them great for "needle in a haystack" search (logs, document) as implementations like VictoriaMetrics and Bing's BitFunnel show. I've used them in the past, but they've never been center-stage in my projects. I wanted high cardinality keyword…

Hello HN, I wanted to share a library I've been working on called: fp-filters - A curated collection of 130+ common-use filter functions that are written (and can be used) in a functional programming style. Why I built this: I have noticed in several codebases the tendency to keep writing the same or similar filter functions over and over again. Often inlined, taxing readability. And realized that most of them do pretty much the same N things. Therefore they could be isolated, curated, and maintained separately. fp-filters provides 130+ composable, point-free filtering functions that make…
