Hello HN, My girlfriend and I waste too much energy to decide what to eat. Every day, we would text each other, "what do we eat tonight" messages, and go over options and many times spend too much time on deciding. I am an indie dev and created this app to solve my own problem: decide with my girlfriend what to eat for dinner. Initially, I created a simple app, in which we listed all the recipes we ever prepared, and it would propose randomly three of them. We would then choose together one of them. This app[0] turned into a tinder-like app, which would propose every day a set of recipes to…

I've gotten to the point in my career where I now make strategic decisions often (hiring, firing, choosing what equipment to go with, etc.), as well as in my personal life where I need to strongly weigh my options for a big purchase or investment. I found a not-so-surprising parallel between the two as these decisions "resolved." Am I making good decisions or am I getting lucky? Did some research, read some books, and realized I should get in the habit of tracking my decision process. That quickly turned into the idea that formed Convexly. The landing page is a 10-question calibration quiz…

In life's journey, the quality of our decisions often determines our path. After many trips around the sun, the most impactful advice I could give the younger generation is to hone your decision quality. Life presents us with a continuous series of choices, frequently made with limited information and an abundance of unpredictable variables. By optimizing our decision-making process, we increase our chances of staying on a favorable path. I make so many decisions in personal and professional spheres that I wanted to make it as easy as possible to get straight to the point. My goal was…

Hey HN, We explored how decision-making happens under severe information asymmetry and used career exploration as a test subject. In practice, people converge on a small set of highly legible default paths, with little visibility into credible alternatives. That’s why we’re building Fig, a tool for reasoning about career paths when the next step isn’t obvious, given the dependence on fleeting personal preferences. Most existing tools respond by collapsing uncertainty into a single recommendation or by modeling careers as linear trajectories. That works reasonably well at the recruiting…

Hey HN! - As you go into the weekend check out Uni (https://uni.fyi), we recently came out of closed beta and are excited to share what we’ve built to help remote teams involve the right people from their teams to make smart decisions! We’re an early-stage spinout from Cornell Tech and we see decision making as a natural wedge to actualizing inclusion within companies. Since there are no go-to products out there which facilitate this process fully, decision makers often-times become overwhelmed and frustrated with including people in their decision process resulting in an exclusive…

After reading the book Getting to Yes, I really want some tool to help me negotiate more efficiently without having to memorize everything principle. You start by putting in interests of each party, then you can explore different functions: how to respond to the other party, explore objective criteria out there or brainstorm more negotiation options. Still working on it! Leave me feedback if you have any suggestions!

I think tracking how you feel over time can radically improve decision making. So I made a quick little webapp that helps you do that! 1. Submit a question with a schedule 2. Emails notify you when it's time to respond 3. See how you feel over time https://simple-decisions.herokuapp.com/
