Hey HN! We’re building Revideo (https://github.com/redotvideo/revideo), an open source framework for programmatic video editing. Revideo lets you create video templates in Typescript and render them with dynamic inputs through an API. It also comes with a component that lets you preview your projects in the browser and integrate video editing functionality into web apps. The project is useful for anyone who wants to build apps that automate certain video editing tasks. A lot of companies in the space build their own custom stack for this, like Opus…

Inspired by the design and UI/UX of apps like Notion, and utility of open-source apps like StackEdit, I decided to create a minimalistic, local-only WYSIWYG Markdown editor. Some features worth highlighting: - Monaco editor and Prettier integration for code snippets - Tables (apparently the holy grail of WYSIWYG editing) - Embeds (for CodePen, CodeSandbox and YouTube, most useful for HTML or JSON exports) - Accepts Markdown paste-in, and "exports"/generates HTML, Markdown and JSON outputs - Collaboration (with real-time awareness and initial commenting system, available only when…

Hey all, creator of Video.js and co-founder of Mux & Zencoder here. My team and I built this. I hope you like the themes we’ve built so far, and maybe even get inspired to build your own. I know Web Components are in a bit of a drama cycle right now. I’m happy to see them get any attention really. I’ve been pretty bullish on them since ~2013 when I started working with them, at least in the context of a widget like a video player. I’ve even given many related talks on them like this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6Mh84SRoDg). I would never push them for a large app or…

Hi HN, I built VidStudio, a privacy focused video editor that runs in the browser. I tried to keep it as frictionless as possible, so there are no accounts and no uploads. Everything is persisted on your machine. Some of the features: multi-track timeline, frame accurate seek, MP4 export, audio, video, image, and text tracks, and a WebGL backed canvas where available. It also works on mobile. Under the hood, WebCodecs handles frame decode for timeline playback and scrubbing, which is what makes seeking responsive since decode runs on the hardware decoder when the browser supports it. FFmpeg…

It's an open source video editor designed for motion effects and versatility. developed with electronjs / TypeScript, FFmpeg, Litjs. I'm currently focusing on making it easier to edit long-form videos. Specifically, adding subtitles to podcast episodes or creating short-form content from YouTube videos. And I’m also developing several extensible utilities. For example, recording video with a floating webcam—similar to Loom—or using LLMs to make cut editing easier. To make all this possible, I believe the first step is to build a versatile, general-purpose video editor. Demo :…

Hello HN, Video content is more popular than ever, but the toolkit for creating such content is a bit behind. You usually have to rely on a server for rendering whenever you want to create a video editing project in the browser. This means uploading content to a server, coding complex filters and effects, and more. My friend and I spent a year developing an SDK that handles all these complexities and offers an easy-to-use interface for developers. The SDK works entirely in the browser, manages memory efficiently so it can run even on a 7-year-old Android device, supports GLSL effects and…

We needed a JS-first WYSIWYG DOCX editor and couldn't find a solid OSS option, most were either commercial or abandoned. As an experiment, we gave Claude Code the OOXML spec, a concrete editor architecture, and a Playwright-based test suite. The agent iterated in a (Ralph) loop over a few nights and produced a working editor from scratch. Core text editing works today. Tables and images are functional but still incomplete. MIT licensed.

Hi HN, I'm a film director by trade, and I prefer writing my stories in plain text rather than using clunky screenplay software. Standard markup like Fountain doesn't work for me because I write in mixed languages, so I use Markdown with a custom syntax I invented to resemble standard screenplay structures. This workflow is great until I need to actually generate an industry-standard screenplay PDF. I got tired of manually copying and pasting my text back into the clunky software just to export it, so I decided to write a script to automate the process. That's when I hit a wall. I tried…

Hi everyone! I originally created CodeVideo as a little side project using FFMPEG WASM in the browser as an experiment, but it's since grown into my vision for a completely automated software educational course production system. The idea is that you create the educational content once, then can export the course to multiple formats - as a video (of course!), but also as an interactive webpage, a blog post, or even a book, PDF, or PowerPoint! Basically a "create once, ship everywhere" concept. Things will get more interesting as I incorporate stuff like spell check (for speech) and abstract…

Descript costs $24/mo, so I built this over a single weekend with Fable! Introducing Rescript: edit videos by simply editing the transcript text. Drop in a video and it is transcribed locally with per-word timestamps and speaker labels. Delete words in the transcript and the corresponding clip is cut from the video. Runs fully in the browser: Local, free, offline and open source. → Github https://github.com/wassgha/rescript → App https://wassgha.github.io/rescript

I've been learning Japanese for a few years and kept running into a similar problem. I'd find a video I wanted to learn from, hear a useful sentence, and then realise that turning that sentence into something I could study later was both time consuming and draining at times. I would end up jumping between a video player, subtitles/transcription, a dictionary, screenshots, audio clips and Anki. So I built SubSmith to bring that workflow together. You can drop a video or audio file into it, generate a transcript locally and then use the transcript alongside the media to: * look up words…
