We strongly believe working on open source software should be a viable source of income for many more developers. Unfortunately, the following barriers limit the extent of open source funding: - Only a small fraction of open source projects are funded, and most money goes to a few notable projects. - Each project has to market is self to get significant funding. - Large corporate donations provide the bulk of the funding, making it unreliable and unattainable for many. - Finding and supporting each of your dependencies is a cumbersome task. Which ones, how much, and on which platforms? So we…

Hey! As a full-stack developer involved in world of open source, I've often encountered valuable repositories with solutions to my problems, only to find them abandoned for years. Faced with the dilemma of contributing to such projects during work hours, I thought of a solution. That's when the concept of OpenPledge was born — a web platform designed to address this very issue by allowing users (or corporations) to financially support specific open source issues. Imagine, no more abandoned projects, and developers passionate about contributing to open source can now do so more seamlessly and…

I do maintain big OSS projects and and try to contribute as well. However contribution experience can very bad, if you follow the path of picking the most famous objects. Good luck contributing to Node, Rust, Shadcn and etc - they do not need your contribution, their PR queue is overloaded and they can't handle it. Plus you need to get to their internal circles first, though quite complex process. The world is much bigger. There are so many help required from the smaller but still active projects. Just recently I raised 3 small PRs, and they reviewed the same day! As a my respect to all the…

http://giving.github.com A few weeks back, from a conversation around helping make the world a truly better place, we started a site where charities, organizations and those trying to make the world better could ask us programmers for help. The site is hard to establish as those doing meaningful work and in need of our help are sadly unaware of the programming community and spirit. But it has started to attract some requests - issues in github-mapping - that will hopefully propel it forward and serve to raise awareness with the good causes! So go get over there and help code something…
