Hey! As a full-stack developer involved in world of open source, I've often encountered valuable repositories with solutions to my problems, only to find them abandoned for years. Faced with the dilemma of contributing to such projects during work hours, I thought of a solution. That's when the concept of OpenPledge was born — a web platform designed to address this very issue by allowing users (or corporations) to financially support specific open source issues. We strongly believe working on open source software should be a viable source of income for many more developers. Unfortunately, the following barriers limit the extent of open source funding: - Only a small fraction of open source projects are funded, and most money goes to a few notable projects. - Each project has to market is self to get significant funding. - Large corporate donations provide the bulk of the funding, making it unreliable and unattainable for many. - Finding and supporting each of your dependencies is a cumbersome task. Which ones, how much, and on which platforms? So we…

BountyHub▲341Hello HN community! As a long-time Github user, I often had issues with public repositories that remained open for a long time. This is due to multiple reasons, such as the lack of resources or prioritization. Sponsoring a repository isn't always the best idea because most of the time, contributors are not the ones receiving money. I came up with a solution: put bounties on GitHub issues to incentivize open-source contributors to fix issues even if they're not directly affected by them. This tool is not intended to force any unwanted additions to a GitHub project, but mainly to help with…

Last year I gave in to the temptation of doing my own startup and quit my job, just like many others have done on this site. Since then, I’ve severely changed my lifestyle and reduced my living costs to a crazy low figure and worked my ass off for the last 8 months to achieve this: www.openloopz.com I have written more about it on Medium here: http://goo.gl/JN03yf I knew from the start the odds were stacked against me. I’m almost 36, I have a family and I live in the North East of England where - without wanting to sound negative - the opportunities are few and far between…

I got tired of collecting open source projects in my chrome bookmarks so I decided to compile a curated list of: - Recently active projects on GitHub - Mostly dev tools (but also productivity, analytics) - Projects which are "Alternative to X software" My bookmarks are finally empty:D If you have a great open source tool you use, I'd be glad to hear your suggestions. Also, any feedback is greatly appreciated.

A few days ago, someone I follow asked the community for help maintaining his side-project, 512kb.club. This got me thinking. There are loads of maintainers out there feeling burnt out, but they can't abandon their project since people are depending on the project to be maintained. In an effort to combat this, I built a website that lists projects looking for new maintainers. It's still quite empty and has some rough edges. Any feedback is very welcome!
