hi guys. been working on something i think is fundamentally missing in today's workflow with ai agents. vcs. i find myself struggling with questions that agents can't answer like "why did you do it?", "when did u delete this folder? why?", etc. or trying to /rewind (after a /compact...) or basically `bisect` to find when and why something was done by the agent in the current / previous session. just like git did for code, i think we are the same core capabilities with ai agents so... i developed an open source solution for that (currently supporting claude code) would love to…

We launched Infracost on HN five years ago (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26064588) where our CLI generated cost estimates for infra-as-code, e.g. "this Terraform PR adds $400/mo". The idea was to shift cloud costs (FinOps) left, so engineers get visibility of costs before deployment and make better decisions. Earlier this year we started seeing agent traffic in our logs and it looked like coding agents were calling our CLI. But that CLI wasn't designed with coding agents in mind. We went down a philosophical rabbit hole to see if a CLI is even needed anymore given…

Hey HN, About a year ago I shared a first MVP of a visual node-based system for CI/CD pipelines that I've been very passionate about. I've been building on it since, and it's now live. I've always liked building pipelines and workflows, but I've never liked writing YAML for anything more than simple linear tasks. Branching, conditions, loops, or trying to just run certain things in parallel always gets messy. So I built Actionforge, a visual node system to tackle some of these pain points. Instead of writing YAML yourself, you build workflows as graphs. While Actionforge still uses YAML…

For the past 4 years, I've been tracking the install counts of AI coding extensions in the Visual Studio Code marketplace (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, etc.) Today, I built an interactive dashboard that lets you see daily install counts for any of them over time. The chart shows GitHub Copilot by default, and you can overlay or swap in any of the other 20+ tools to compare. You can also see important dates in each tool's history (pricing changes, major releases, etc.) and how daily installs changed around those dates. Important caveats: 1) This only tracks VS Code extension…

Hey HN! I am a FE dev who is working at a software agency and im making 2-3 estimates per week. Creating estimates is painfull manual proccess, where you have to read a lot of .docx like RFP, SRS etc. This was really tiring for me Also in agency where im working we make estimates in google spreadsheets which is another pain, trying to drag something, copy, duplicate can really mess up the whole layout So i just wanted tool that can just automate this a bit. I just started researching and I couldnt find anything good enough for my usecase. So I made a tool for creating estimates with AI. I…

I'm very excited to share what I've been working on lately! Introducing ENHANCE, a terminal UI for GitHub Actions that lets you easily see and interact with your PRs checks. It's available under a sponsorware model. Get more info on the site: -> https://gh-dash.dev/enhance This is an attempt to make my OSS development something sustainable. Happy to hear feedback about the model as well as the tool! Cheers!

Hi HN, We are researchers from ETH Zurich interested in the real-world adoption and impact of Code Agents. To measure this, we built a dashboard, scraping all public PRs on GitHub, analyzing which are created by different code agents (Codex, Jules, Copilot, Devin, etc.), and measuring their merge rates, sliced by various repository and PR characteristics. https://insights.logicstar.ai Since mid-May, we've analyzed over 10 million PRs and already found some interesting trends: Usage is high, but shallow. Agents submit ~7% of all PRs overall, but only ~1–2% on popular repos. Most…
