Products that do what How Loud Is My Hotel? does

Hey HN, I build "How Loud Is My Hotel?" as a simple way to check for possible loud noise near a hotel (or any other address) before booking it. I've had some negative experiences in the past so this automatically checks for things like nearby Clubs, Police Stations with sirens, big roads, railroads etc. and gives you a "noise score" based on them. It's free, works worldwide and needs no account. It estimates outside noise risk rather than measuring decibels, so building insulation and temporary noise aren’t included.

I built a free, no-registration noise evidence generator for tenant noise complaints. Features: - Supports 27 US cities with accurate noise ordinances - Real-time recording + professional court-ready PDF reports - 100% local processing (no data upload, privacy-first) - Auto day/night noise limit detection - Completely free (10 PDF generations/day) Why: As a tenant dealing with noise issues, I was frustrated that existing tools either required subscriptions or uploaded data to servers. This tool is: - Totally free, no hidden costs - No registration or installation required - All…

For the past few months, I've been working on a website that answers two different questions: - Where in my city have the best travel times to all the things and people I care about? - Given a listing, how far is it from all the things and people I care about? Personally this was fueled by my own frustrations when I was apartment hunting in NYC. I was frustrating to have to juggle so many Google Maps tabs when I was evaluating a listing, and it was also annoying to not have full confidence that I was even searching in the right places. I wanted to be close to work, a Trader Joe's, and a…

I’ve always liked having background noise while working or falling asleep, but I got frustrated that most “white noise” or ambient sound apps are either paywalled, stuffed with ads, or try to upsell subscriptions for basic features. So I made Ambi, a small iOS app with a clean interface and a set of freely available ambient sounds — rain, waves, wind, birds, that sort of thing. You can mix them, adjust volume levels, and just let it play all night or while you work. Everything works offline and there are no hidden catches. It’s something I built for myself first, but I figured others might…

I built this free, no-nonsense white noise app. I know there are plenty of them out there already, but I wanted to make something beautiful and easy-to-use, without logins or ads or in-app purchases or any of the other stuff a lot of them have. I appeared on The Economist's The Intelligence podcast [0] this week talking about Ambiphone and another ambient music project, Ambient ScotRail Beats [1] - I'm on at about 17:30 There's a big selection of music and sounds already but I'm always adding more - if there's anything you'd like to see added, let me know! Hey HN, I am building an open source platform to make on-call better and less stressful for engineers. We are building a tool that can silence alerts and help with debugging and root cause analysis. We also want to automate tedious parts of being on-call (running runbooks manually, answering questions on Slack, dealing with Pagerduty). Here is a quick video of how it works: https://youtu.be/m_K9Dq1kZDw I hated being on-call for a couple of reasons: * Alert volume: The number of alerts kept increasing over time. It was hard to maintain existing alerts. This would lead to a lot…

Hi HN , my partner and I were looking for easier answers to our weekend planning ritual, such as: - When is our next free weekend? - What weekend activities have we got planned? - How busy/available are we to travel / host? Especially at the start of each year, when we're trying to plan flights and/or commit to hosting friends & family visits, I struggled to find a usable overview of multiple months that wasn't cluttered with weekdays. Our social events are overwhelmingly centered around weekends and we wanted a view of the year ahead that reflected that. How about just a line…
