How Loud Is My Hotel?
Hey HN, I build "How Loud Is My Hotel?" as a simple way to check for possible loud noise near a hotel (or any other address) before booking it. I've had some negative experiences in the past so this automatically checks for things like nearby Clubs, Police Stations with sirens, big roads, railroads etc. and gives you a "noise score" based on them. It's free, works worldwide and needs no account. It estimates outside noise risk rather than measuring decibels, so building insulation and temporary noise aren’t included.
How Loud Is My Hotel? launched on June 24, 2026 with 5 votes, #2,466 of 22,647 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.
What it does
Enter any hotel or address to get a 0–100 quiet score based on nearby airports, railways, busy roads, nightlife, and more. Inspect every source on an interactive map. Free worldwide, with no account required.

A website that heatmaps your city based on your housing preferences2025 · theretowhere.com · ▲321For the past few months, I've been working on a website that answers two different questions: - Where in my city have the best travel times to all the things and people I care about? - Given a listing, how far is it from all the things and people I care about? Personally this was fueled by my own frustrations when I was apartment hunting in NYC. I was frustrating to have to juggle so many Google Maps tabs when I was evaluating a listing, and it was also annoying to not have full confidence that I was even searching in the right places. I wanted to be close to work, a Trader Joe's, and a…

Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
