24 alternatives to How to Use LLMs
A chat interface laid out sideways: each Q&A is a page, old pages collapse into topic-colored tabs. Runs on your Claude subscription through the Claude Code CLI, embeddings local via Ollama. Zero runtime dependencies. - canaanmckenzie/sidelong

I think LLMs are overused to summarise and underused to help us read deeper. I built a system for Claude Code to browse 100 non-fiction books and find interesting connections between them. I started out with a pipeline in stages, chaining together LLM calls to build up a context of the library. I was mainly getting back the insight that I was baking into the prompts, and the results weren't particularly surprising. On a whim, I gave CC access to my debug CLI tools and found that it wiped the floor with that approach. It gave actually interesting results and required very little orchestration…

Scroll▲93I kept losing ideas in long chats, so I built a tiny Chrome extension to make navigating between turns/prompts way easier. Idk why this isn't a native feature on all LLMs. Anyway, free and open source on GitHub or the Chrome Store. Hope it's helpful! All content is based on Andrej Karpathy's "Intro to Large Language Models" lecture (youtube.com/watch?v=7xTGNNLPyMI). I downloaded the transcript and used Claude Code to generate the entire interactive site from it — single HTML file. I find it useful to revisit this content time to time.

Twigg▲157Hi HN, we’re Jamie and Matti, co-founders of Twigg. During our master’s we continually found the same pain points cropping up when using LLMs. The linear nature of typical LLMs interfaces - like ChatGPT and Claude - made it really easy to get lost without any easy way to visualise or navigate your project. Worst of all, none of them are well suited for long term projects. We found ourselves spending days using the same chat, only for it to eventually break. Transferring context from one chat to another is also cumbersome. We decided to build something more intuitive to the ways humans think.…

Hello HN! I was fed up switching between multiple UIs to ask GPT, Claude, etc… the same question and comparing the answers. So I built a way to ask multiple models the same question efficiently by having the LLM compare the responses and only show you new and valuable information from the 2nd model. This way you still get a fast response as normal from the 1st model, but also get any added value provided by the 2nd model. Initially I built my own UI to use this, but stumbled upon Open WebUI (formerly Ollama WebUI) which is fantastic, but is made more for local access to LLMs. So I talked to…

I use the Claude Code web interface a lot, it's great for picking up sessions on the go, continuing work from my phone, or just when I don't want to open a terminal. But there was one thing that kept annoying me: the tab switching. Every time Claude pushed a change, I'd switch to the Netlify tab, refresh, check the result, switch back, type feedback. Tools like Lovable figured this out a while ago; they put the live preview right next to the chat. So I built a Chrome extension that does the same thing for Claude Code: a resizable panel that sits alongside your conversation and shows your…

Bindly▲76Hi HN, I’m a product designer by background, not a traditional software engineer. Over the last year, tools like Claude and ChatGPT completely changed how I work. I started with small internal tools, and now I’m “vibe coding” multiple highly personalized apps. As I iterated between Claude Code (implementation) and ChatGPT (ideation / thinking), I kept running into the same problem. To think clearly, I had to repeatedly re-explain: - what the code currently does, - what changed recently, - and why certain decisions were made. That re-summarization step became a real bottleneck. So I…

any-llm is a library that provides unified access to multiple LLM providers. switching between providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, and even Ollama is just a string change. This demo makes it easy to look at and compare responses from different models. Interesting to see how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and local models each reason through the same problems. Let us know what you think!

I'm lost between ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini... which subscriptions to take? With Cursor and all these specific AI tools, I just wanted one simple chat app where I can use any model and pay only when I use it. Couldn't find one, so I built one. Pay only for what you use. Your prompts and docs, knowledge bases work with every model - no more copy-pasting between apps. Started as a personal project, but thought someone else might benefit from this too. https://prismharmony.com/chat What do you think?

Author here. I wanted to keep my conversation with #Gemini about code handy while discussing something creative with #ChatGPT and using #DeepSeek in another window. I think it's a waste to have Electron apps and so wanted to chat with LLMs on my own terms. When I discovered the llm CLI tool I really wanted to have convenient and pretty looking access to my conversations, and so I wrote gtk-llm-chat - a plugin for llm that provides an applet and a simple window to interact with LLM models. Make sure you've configure llm first (https://llm.datasette.io/en/stable/) I'd…

I got frustrated with Claude's official platform limitations - conversations disappearing, no customization options, and clunky file handling. So I built my own interface over a weekend! GitHub: https://github.com/chihebnabil/claude-ui What it does: - Saves all conversations locally (SQLite + Drizzle ORM) - Lets you customize Claude's personality per chat - Handles file attachments properly + caching input tokens - Dark/light mode - No conversation limits - Markdown & code syntax highlighting Tech stack is pretty simple: - Nuxt 3 for the frontend - Anthropic's SDK…

Our features: - Full text search across all your chats - Saved chats - Switch models mid-chat - Edit model outputs and continue generating, or save model responses for longer prompt engineering - Temporary chats - Edit model creativity (temperature) - Different color themes On our roadmap: - Upload pdf files + photos (we know this an important one and plan to support in…

All LLM user interfaces I've seen so far are somewhat frustrating: * ChatGPT web requires a lot of copy-paste, it rewrites whole document even if you need to update a part of it, etc. * Github Copilot completions are rather unreliable and do not leave an option to specify what you want; Copilot's chat sidebar is little more than ChatGPT integrated into the IDE * Google Docs have right UI for non-code text, but they use really dumb model (not Gemini 1.5 Pro). Also won't work for code. So... I wrote a Emacs Lisp function which calls LLM with contents of the buffer to generate text according to…

Lately, I've been tinkering with llama.cpp and the ollama server. The speed of these tools caught my attention, even on my modest 4060 setup. I was quite impressed with the generation quality of models like Mistral. But I was a bit unhappy at the same time because whenever I explore a topic, there is a lot of typing involved when using the chat interface. So I needed a tool to not only give a response but also generate a set of "suggestions" which can be explored further just by clicking. My experience in front-end development is limited. Nonetheless, I tinkered together a small web app to…

I’d like to use LLMs for remembering all kinds of things: fitness, to-do lists, contacts, bug reports, research links, whatever. But there is no way to do that now. For example, if I find a great coding tutorial in chat, or tell it how much I ran yesterday, it forgets that when I close the chat. Even if I keep the chat history, I still need to scour through lots of messages to find the data I want. Ideally, Claude would remember all this, and I’d be able to find it later with ease. This is what my team built. It is a collaborative database you add to any LLM that supports MCP. (Claude Code,…
