A friend of mine and I were talking a while back and we realized that it would be cool to run some sweepstakes on Twitter. We put up a sign up page for a while to collect some emails and we got 200 sign ups. It’s not 100% algorithm-free (there’s still basic filtering to avoid spam or abuse), but the core idea is that every user has a real chance to be seen, even with zero followers. My weekend hack project was to put together a small web app for sharing links in the spirit of memepool.com. It uses a bookmarklet to let people clip interesting articles to share while reading and uses a subset of markdown to add links and blockquotes to posts.
