I built this site just because I wanted it to exist. I'm a keen surfer who lives near one of the worlds surfing epicenters; the Gold Coast, Australia. Getting home from a surf I'd often get excited seeing videos on YouTube of the breaks and waves I'd surfed that day. Hi HN, I recently noticed a recurring visual artifact in the "Most Replayed" heatmap on the YouTube player. The highest peaks were always surrounded by two dips. I got curious about why they were there, so I decided to reverse engineer the feature to find out. This post documents the deep dive. This weekend a well-known comedian was live-tweeting sardonic commentary for a new Lifetime movie. It got me thinking that it would be cool to be able to replay his tweets later so that someone who missed the live show would be able to sync them up with the movie. YouTube is full of quality content but it is sometimes hard to find it so I created a website where you can rate and review channels and that helps you discover new ones. The goal is to make a platform like IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes but for YouTube channels.
