I got curious about why they were there, so I decided to reverse engineer the feature to find out. This post documents the deep dive. Been having a lot of fun reading an SC2Replay collection through nom parsers, serializing into Arrow files so that pola.rs can read them and perform data analysis with jupyter lab, plotly or interact with SQL operations, etc. Looking for feedback and ideas on what to progress on. Over the weekend I was discussing the latest news relating to open weights with some of my non-techie friends. I scraped every Show HN from the last 12 months (41,301 posts) plus the full comment tree of every launch with 10+ comments, ~100k comment timestamps, all from the Algolia HN API. The median launch gets 2 points and 0 comments. This weekend is the ABC Classic FM countdown, which prompted me to dust off an old un-published data visualisation of rankings from previous years.
