Products that do what I made presets for Darktable which mimic Fujifilm's Film Simulations does
Fujifilm cameras make really beautiful JPEGs thanks to their Film Simulation feature (where they mimic the look of certain analogue film types), but sometimes I want to do things for which you need the RAW files (like sharpening or local contrast effects or white balance fixes or whatever else would suffer under 8-bit/channel and/or JPEG artifacts). darktable is my RAW editor of choice, but it doesn't make your edits look like the out-of-camera JPEGs by default. Quite the contrary, the defaults generally need some love to bring out a nice edit of an image. To solve (pun intended)…

This works suprisingly well. Just give it instructions like "make it winter" or "remove the cars" and the photo is altered. Hello Hacker News photographers! Yes, this is essentially my take on photo colling and management, similar to the features that Lightroom and Darktable already have. Because I shoot in JPEG+RAW, my workflow looks like me going through my JPEG images and then eliminating the JPEGs I don't like afterwards in addition to their corresponding RAWs. At least on my old MacBook, the JPEGs were faster to load than the RAW photos (probably a combination of CR2, the file my EOS 40D, not having embedded JPEG previews and my buggy macOS version). I saw someone post these on reddit 4 years ago, and I really wanted to make them. I was surprised they didn't open source their code, so I rebuilt it. Lots of things I would do differently now haha, but anyway, figured someone here might find it interesting.

hey there hn! thought you would appreciate my brand new file format - i've spent over 40 minutes creating this standard. it's really hard trying to get your ideas shown to standards boards etc but i think with the great community here we can help get bioif support into all major browsers :) the spec is available over at the website, as is a reference implementation. it already has higher usage than jpeg-xl. - best
