Hey all, wanted to share my recent weekend hack project. I wanted to improve upon the existing space for looking up information about IP addresses and ASNs. The backend is written in Rust and pulls BGP data every 8 hours from the RIPE RIS project to build up a routing table and also adds geolocation information. The frontend is using React and Tailwind. Would love any feedback or suggestions on what to improve.

A year ago, my co-founder launched Desktop Docs here on HN. It's a Mac app we built with Electron that uses CLIP embeddings to search photos and videos locally with natural language. We got positive feedback from HN and our first paying customers, but the app was almost 1GB and clunky to use. TLDR; rebuilding in Rust was the right move. I've created a quick application that stores data in IPFS (http://ipfs.io) which is a distributed web implementation. It's working as expected, paste some content, get a hash in the url and send to a friend. The content will be there forever and distributed to peers that asks for it. I think that asdf (https://asdf-vm.com) was a great idea for a project. It helps consolidate installing and running different programming languages into a similar UX. It also is built with a plugin interface that makes it easy to build support for new languages. However it is so slow. I was just testing `node -v` and it was taking ~900ms. That kind of overhead is completely unusable. My shell prompt uses runtimes inside of it for various things so this effectively makes every command take multiple seconds to complete. Hello! I got quite some feedback on a web server I'm building, so I'm rewriting the server to be faster and easier to use. I (and maybe some other contributors?) have optimized the web server performance, especially for static file serving and reverse proxying (the last use case I optimized for very recently). Founder here, Parseable is a lightweight log ingestion and query engine written in Rust. Parseable can ingest data from existing logging agents (FluentBit, LogStash, Vector, syslog-ng and more) using HTTP + JSON output. Ingested logs are stored as semi-indexed Parquet files (on disk or S3). You can query the data with builtin query engine using SQL or use a query engines of choice like Spark, Presto, Trino and so on.
