24 alternatives to LLMs following grammar for general-purpose PLs
Efficient and general syntactical decoding for Large Language Models - structuredllm/syncode
This project implements grammar-following capabilities for large language models when generating code in general-purpose programming languages. It enables LLMs to produce syntactically correct output by constraining… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. We developed a new framework that enables flexible control of generated text in language models. By combining several models and/or system prompts in one mathematical formula, it lets you tweak your style and combine model outputs with ease. A handy tool for those working with LLMs, looking for more fine-grained control of stylistic output. More details in our paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.14479. Feedback and potential applications are welcome.

G'day, HN! I'm one of the maintainers of `llm`. I've been working alongside a trusty group of contributors to bring this project to life, and we're now at a point where we're ready to share it with the world. Large language models (LLMs) are taking the computing world by storm due to their emergent abilities that allow them to perform a wide variety of tasks, including translation, summarization, code generation, and even some degree of reasoning. However, the ecosystem around LLMs is still in its infancy, and it can be difficult to get started with these models. `llm` is a one-stop shop for…

All content is based on Andrej Karpathy's "Intro to Large Language Models" lecture (youtube.com/watch?v=7xTGNNLPyMI). I downloaded the transcript and used Claude Code to generate the entire interactive site from it — single HTML file. I find it useful to revisit this content time to time.

Built a tool for transforming unstructured data into structured outputs using language models (with 100% adherence). If you're facing problems getting GPT to adhere to a schema (JSON, XML, etc.) or regex, need to bulk process some unstructured data, or generate synthetic data, check it out. We run our own tuned model (you can self-host if you want), so, we're able to have incredibly fine grained control over text generation. I've been building a tool that changes how LLM coding agents explore codebases, and I wanted to share it along with some early observations. Typically claude code globs directories, greps for patterns, and reads files with minimal guidance. It works in kind of the same way you'd learn to navigate a city by walking every street. You'll eventually build a mental map, but claude never does - at least not any that persists across different contexts. The Recursive Language Models paper from Zhang, Kraska, and Khattab at MIT CSAIL introduced a cleaner framing. Instead of cramming everything into…

This is a weekend hack that I'd like to further develop as it's working surprisingly well. Using MCTS, we can explore a space of possible verified programs with an LLM. We check the partial programs at each step, and so steer towards programs that pass the verifier. https://github.com/namin/llm-verified-with-monte-carlo-tree-...

Hi HN - Marcello and Vaibhav here. We built smolmodels to experiment with using LLMs for ML development. It's a fully open-source library that generates complete model training and inference code from natural language descriptions. It combines graph search with LLM code generation to find a model that gives as good predictions as possible. The core idea is that LLMs are overkill for a lot of predictive tasks. Smolmodels automates the trial-and-error process of finding the right model architecture and training approach, letting you build small, specialised models. You can either provide your…

TuneTrain.ai▲79Do you know that Small Language Models (SLM) can outperform LLMs if trained (fine-tuned) on domain specific datasets, like your companies knowledge base? The issue: fine-tuning a SLM usually requires a dataset of 10k - 100k records, which is huge. I created a platform for applying "human in the loop" augmentation techniques on your small dataset, so that you can start with maybe 100 records and build-up quickly huge datasets and launch a training without prior knowledge. I implemented 2 techniques, based on LLM distillation, however: more to come. HN, what Do you think? Do you see value in…

Hey Hacker News! I've been working on an open-source project called LLM Alignment Template, a comprehensive toolkit designed to help researchers, developers, and data scientists align large language models (LLMs) with human values using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). What the project does: Interactive Web Interface: Easily train models, visualize alignment metrics, and manage alignment with an accessible UI. Training with RLHF: Align models effectively to human preferences using feedback loops. Explainability: Built-in dashboards to help understand model behavior using…

This is my take on the common "use llms to generate shell commands" utility. Emphasis is placed on good CLI UX, simplicity, and flexibility. `llm2sh` supports multiple LLM providers and lets LLMs generate multi-command sequences to handle complex tasks. There is also limited support for commands requiring `sudo` and other basic input. I recommend using Groq llama3-70b for day-to-day use. The ultra-low latency is a game-changer - its near-instant responses helps `llm2sh` integrate seamlessly into day-to-day tasks without breaking you out of the 'zone'. For more advanced tasks, swapping to…
