24 alternatives to Local Document Parsing for Agents
The core processing engine behind LlamaParse is now open source. LiteParse runs entirely locally, has zero Python dependencies, and is built around how agents actually iterate on documents: parse text fast, fall back to screenshots when you need visual reasoning.
Local Document Parsing for Agents is a tool that enables AI agents to process and understand documents stored locally. Built on the LlamaIndex framework, it allows developers to integrate document parsing capabilities… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

/agent by Firecrawl ▲569While building mendable - we found that feeding LLMs well-structured markdown improved accuracy. We also found it surprisingly hard. We found some great tools online, but none reliably handled the entire process. We wanted an API that took a URL, crawled the pages in the URL, and gave us an easy-to-use, up-to-date markdown we could feed into our index. So, we released an open-source repo and an API that crawls and turns entire websites into a markdown with just a few lines of code The API handles: - Crawling without consistent sitemaps - Infra to handle running many crawling jobs - Proxying,…

LiteParse is an open-source (Apache 2.0) document parser that provides high-quality spatial text parsing with bounding boxes. It does not depend on local or frontier VLMs. Because it does not require GPUs, liteparse can be run on any machine, and process a few hundred pages of documents in seconds. It offers higher accuracy than similar tools like PyPDF, PyMuPDF, MarkItDown. It supports a variety of file formats - PDFs, Office documents, images. It can be one-line installed as a skill for 40+ different AI agents, including Claude Code, Cursor, OpenClaw, Windsurf, and more.

Hey HN, We’ve been building browser agents for a while. In production, we kept converging on the same pattern: deterministic scripts for the happy path, agents only for edge cases. So we built Demonstrate Mode. The idea is simple: You perform your workflow once in a remote browser. Notte records the interactions and generates deterministic automation code. How it works: - Record clicks, inputs, navigations in a cloud browser - Compile them into deterministic code (no LLM at runtime) - Run and deploy on managed browser infrastructure Closest analog is Playwright codegen but: - Infrastructure…

Hey Folks! I've been building an open source benchmark for measuring local LLM performance on your own hardware. The benchmarking tool is a CLI written on top of Llamafile to allow for portability across different hardware setups and operating systems. The website is a database of results from the benchmark, allowing you to explore the performance of different models and hardware configurations. Please give it a try! Any feedback and contribution is much appreciated. I'd love for this to serve as a helpful resource for the local AI community. For more check out: - Website:…

Hey HN, we’re building an open specification that lets agents discover and invoke APIs with natural language, built on the OpenAPI standard. agents.json clearly defines the contract between LLMs and API as a standard that's open, observable, and replicable. Here’s a walkthrough of how it works: https://youtu.be/kby2Wdt2Dtk?si=59xGCDy48Zzwr7ND. There’s 2 parts to this: 1. An agents.json file describes how to link API calls together into outcome-based tools for LLMs. This file sits alongside an OpenAPI file. 2. The agents.json SDK loads agents.json files as tools for an LLM that…

Author here. I just wanted a quick and easy way to easily submit strings to a REST API and get back the embedding vectors in JSON using Llama2 and other similar LLMs, so I put this together over the past couple days. It's very quick and easy to set up and totally self-contained and self-hosted. You can easily add new models to it by simply adding the HuggingFace URL to the GGML format model weights. Two models are included by default, and these are automatically downloaded the first time it's run. It lets you not only submit text strings and get back the embeddings, but also to compare two…

Parsewise▲169Hi HN! We're X25 alumni and built Parsewise to analyze large document sets with AI agents. Instead of prompting a single PDF, our agents extract, cross-reference, and reason across thousands of documents in one run. We originally built this for insurance and financial diligence workflows where teams review huge document packs. Curious what the HN community thinks! We recently shipped the Tiptap AI Toolkit (https://tiptap.dev/docs/content-ai/capabilities/ai-toolkit/o...), which lets developers embed LLM-powered editing into rich text editors. Now we’re exploring the next step: making agents operate on documents without a browser involved. The idea is a server-side system where agents can read, write, and transform documents in real time — essentially treating your document layer as a programmable data store that agents can interact with directly. Internally we’ve been joking about the name “real-time agentic document…

The PDF parser is a rule based parser which uses text co-ordinates (boundary box), graphics and font data. The PDF parser works off text layer and also offers a OCR option to automatically use OCR if there are scanned pages in your PDFs. The OCR feature is based off a modified version of tika which uses tesseract underneath. The PDF Parser offers the following features: * Sections and subsections along with their levels. * Paragraphs - combines lines. * Links between sections and paragraphs. * Tables along with the section the tables are found in. * Lists and nested lists. * Join content…

I just released ParseHawk v0.1.0: Apache-2.0 licensed 100% local document AI platform that extracts JSON from PDFs, images etc. It builds on top of NuMind's NuExtract3 but additionally enforces a provided JSON schema with constrained decoding. It works on Apple Silicon with pre-bundled vllm-metal as well as Linux + NVIDIA with vllm. Looking forward to your feedback!
