Hey HN, I've been working on this side project for the past month. It generates a step-by-step tutorial guide for YouTube videos that you can follow along without watching long videos. Best suited for tutorial videos but can work for other videos aswell. No BS. Just straight to the point. The guides are generated from pure transcript so you don't have to worry about it being AI. It's my first project as a total beginner. Something I had to do inorder to get out of tutorial hell. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you face any problems or bugs. I would try to fix them to the…

I'm writing a book which teaches Python/Django web app development for non-programmers, and fundraising on Kickstarter (passed minimum funding, 2 days left): http://hellowebapp.com https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1868398473/hello-web-app-intro-to-building-web-apps-with-djan It's basically the process I used to teach myself programming as a web designer a few years back, which I then launched a small web app (infant-version of WeddingInviteLove.com), which has grown into my bootstrapped startup which supports me full-time (WeddingLovely.com). Most…

A couple of years ago I wrote Hello Web App (http://hellowebapp.com) to teach beginner Django web app development. It's aimed at non-programmers and designers, and walks folks through building and deploying a basic web app. I'm working on my third book to teach web design fundamentals to programmers (Hello Web Design: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1868398473/hello-web-design-design-basics-for-non-designers), so I've made Hello Web App free online during the Kickstarter campaign for the new book. The full Hello Web App tutorial can be accessed here:…

https://rxjourney.com.ng I realize SvelteKit is overkill, but I originally had bigger plans for the blog, before deciding to just keep it simple. Yeah, I had Medium open on a different tab while building. It's going to be a personal blog where I write about my experiences, if you're interested you can subscribe to the newsletter.

http://my-notes.readthedocs.org/ Some time ago I posted this question: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4024938 where 100% of the top-level replies were positive ;). So here is the follow-up. It doesn't focus on anything specific, it's more like a collection of "loose" notes related to the Python/Django/JS development. The value here is that I try hard to filter out the noise to make those docs useful for myself. For instance, when I need to learn something on a specific topic, I check e.g. 10 or 20 threads on Stack Overflow, and pick just a handful of answers. And only those few high…

Hey HN, I wrote a book teaching beginner web app development using Django, launching on May 4th (successfully Kickstarted last year.) Website: http://hellowebapp.com Highlights: - Aimed at people who have previous HTML/building websites experience. - Template-first development: see the web app as a website first, before setting up databases and models. - Generic “collection of things” tutorial. Readers are encouraged to create something using this rubric that means something to them (a blog, a directory of people, etc.) Adding creativity will make the material stick better. -…

Hey HN. I've just launched my very first webappp and would love your feedback. http://www.7bks.com It's a book list sharing website - kind of like playlists for bookworms. The site is built on pyton/appengine - and I learned to code in under 4 weeks to build the site. There's more details on the background of the site here: http://www.7bks.com/blog/179001 I've also published the full Python code for the site here: https://gist.github.com/670034 Feedback is really important to me and I want to work hard to make the site better so any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Contact…

This weekend a well-known comedian was live-tweeting sardonic commentary for a new Lifetime movie. It got me thinking that it would be cool to be able to replay his tweets later so that someone who missed the live show would be able to sync them up with the movie. That, along with the fact that I've had lots of fun on Twitter during big events (like the elections), made me think that it'd be a fun hack to put together a Twitter playback site. So last night and tonight I threw together http://www.twitterplayback.com. Check it out an let me know what you think!

YouTube is full of quality content but it is sometimes hard to find it so I created a website where you can rate and review channels and that helps you discover new ones. The goal is to make a platform like IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes but for YouTube channels. I want to go the opposite direction to YouTube which for instance removed the dislikes on videos and has limited search capabilities. For now there are not so many channels but users can submit new YouTubers instantly. I offer you different new ways to discover content on the website: Detailed filters (topic, avg duration, type of video,…

Hi! Long time reader, first time submitter. I've finallllyy got my first webapp online. It's been a long time coming, I started it over a year ago and just been an hour here, a couple of hours here, and a period of a couple of months of nothing. I first wrote it as a way to learn some python it sort of grew to fill a need I had. It's at a point now where I'd LOVE some feedback as I am going round in circules. Please, it's free, just hit the home page, plugin in a name/email and url you want to links checked on. If you use the name 'DeleteMe' I will remove the account after a week, so feel…

Hey HN, Long time lurker first time posting. This is a streamlit app I wrote as a side project. It's a Generative AI webapp for creating short 30 second informative videos on any topic or subject under the sun. It's not perfect by any means, but a cool demo. It takes around a minute to generate so please be patient. Email is optional, only if you want link to watermark removed completed video clip. Any feedback/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! JD P.S. I am actively looking for Senior Python/DevOps/MLOps roles in California. Contact info in my profile. Thanks.

http://hiphopblend.com The website is responsive, so check it out on tablet/mobile, too! I'm currently working on adding more features to the website. It's my first official project since I started to learn programming (PHP). I would love to get an audio player in the site, which would scrape the blogs for new audio, but I'm having some difficult getting there. I really appreciate any feedback about the site at all! A little about me: I've been making Wordpress sites at a digital agency for almost 9 months now (from scratch). A few months ago I became really interested in learning…

http://codewords.io/ I've been trying to get permission to run a game of it from the publisher and designer (CGE & Vlaada Chvátil) but I haven't heard back. I've found demonstrating that there's interest in what you're doing is the best way to get ahold of people. So.. Anyone interested in trying a massive game of Codenames over Twitch? Not quite "For Science!" more "For Engineering!" Which, let's be honest here, has a much better ring to it. If you'd like to know more, I put up an FAQ up here: http://codewords.io/faq/ If you'd like to sign up to help,…

This is a little project I've been working on for a while in order to better learn Python. Although IRC may not exactly be the most exciting medium, I still find it to be fun and useful, this interest lead me to writing a bot. In doing this I realized that what would actually be more interesting would be if I had a framework. There may already be such a thing, certainly there are IRC libraries, but I don't know if they're well-suited to deploying bots. At any rate if for no other reason than the fact that I am relatively new to programming and eager to learn I decided to build a framework.…

We had a lot of reasons we wanted to build our own help desk, the least of which (and easiest to mention) is that a three seat license to the top tier desk systems are well over $100/mo. Plus they were slowing us down quite a bit. Right now its only dependency is Django, it supports email alert for updates, has bundled style, a permission like public/private/internal status, optional anonymous questions/responses, categories, searching, and a few more I've missed. What I'd like to do is: extend tests, class based views, parse incoming emails as questions & response (this is important for…

We’re about to start promoting our coming soon landing pages and wanted to get some feedback from the HN community first. http://soupnextdoor.com - Marketplace for dinner parties We’re running a competition about where our launch will be. This will give us something to promote other than the fact that we’re coming soon and hopefully get some conversation started. We’re looking for feedback across the board. UI, color scheme, browser compatibility issues, problems with our idea, marketing ideas, issues with how we’ve worded things, etc We’ve left Django in debug mode for the time being so if…

I've just launched my coming soon page for Statify, a website monitoring service built using python and django. While the soon coming page has been just been launched. I've been busy the last few months working on the actual service, which is very near completion. I regularly build and maintain sites and anyone whose ever built a site will know that they will go down at some point and you'll find out via the client or from pissed off users. So I decided to build my own app that would track my sites and notify me when they go down, that way I can get a jump on things before clients and users…
