Products that do what No-WEI.js, a banner that will warn Chrome users of the dangers of WEI does

I've created this banner to warn visitors to your site of the dangers of Google's WEI proposal. It's easily installed, all it requires is two lines of HTML to include the JS and CSS. It will display only to Chrome users (and Vivaldi/Brave as a side effect, sorry chaps, but I couldn't narrow the UA detection any further). If you don't know what WEI is or why it is a danger, please read here: https://openwebdefenders.org/ and here: https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/web-environment-integrit... If you want to see what the banner looks like but…

If a visitor is using a WEI-enabled browser (e.g. Chrome, Edge, Chromium) they will get a full-page warning that their browser is harmful, with a link to the FSF's explanation of why WEI is bad and download links to various browsers that oppose WEI (currently: Firefox, Safari, Brave, Pale Moon, GNOME Web). The user has to close the warning banner to view the website content.

A FOSS chrome extension that attempts to remove the annoyance of cookie pop ups and banners. There are some extensions out there that auto-accept cookies, but I didn't find one that auto rejected cookies without either chaining some extensions together or setting up custom rules in tools like uBlock origin. So with this extension, you just need to add it for non-essential cookies to be rejected. Github: https://github.com/mitch292/reject-cookies Extension Link: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/bnbodofigkfjljnopfg... It's still very early days…

Hello HN! A few days ago I saw a comment on reddit which proposed a service that allowed the user to spam a website's server logs with messages objecting to the presence of various anti-features like popups, noisy ads, and autoplaying content. The idea tickled my fancy, so I've put together a Chrome extension which detects if a page is using Google Analytics, and if so it injects a small script which sends bunk utm (urchin tracking module) data to the GA backend. It sets the traffic source to "DO NOT WANT!", and the campaign name to various things like "I do NOT want noisy ads!" Here's the…

Primarily built this to learn how NextJS works and also a bit about Tailwind CSS. Also has request caching using the WebCache API + expiration which is quite a hacky implementation. Let me know what you think! Source is at https://github.com/say4n/hn, pull requests welcome!

I had my developer tools open as I switched tabs and noticed this glaring warning message from Facebook: http://i.imgur.com/sZjsm6z.png Kudos for the XSS prevention method, Facebook. It goes to show when you're at Facebook scale, you worry about attacks and hijacks that are even unknowingly user initiated.

In fact, CSP is used to block execution of any and all javascript, which makes XSS attacks impossible. - High security due to the use of pledge() and unveil() - Highly transparent moderation logs which include a reason for all moderation actions - advanced formatting, including LaTeX support - anyone can create their own board - multiple files per post - inline…

Hey HN, I built an automated system that tracks malicious Chrome/Edge extensions daily. The database updates automatically by monitoring chrome-stats for removed extensions and scanning security blogs. Currently tracking 1000+ known malicious extensions with extension IDs, names, and dates. I'm working on detection tools (GUI + CLI) to scan locally installed extensions against this database, but wanted to share the raw data first since maintained threat intelligence lists like this are hard to find. The automation runs 24/7 and pushes updates to GitHub. Free to use for research,…
