Products that do what On-device meeting transcription for your Mac does
Hi HN! Like a lot of people, I love Granola and use it every day. The onboarding experience, the numerous delighters, the flourishes and the way it just works are all testament to the quality bar you can clear with an Electron app given enough care and expertise. It was the first app I'd ever used which recorded system audio on Mac without recording video too, which sparked a year-long obsession with Apple's Core Audio taps API, led to me creating an open source Swift library which makes that API easier to use, and won me several bits of fascinating freelance work. One thing I've never loved…

Hey HN! I wanted to share this OSS project I've been working on. It's called Yap and its a small menu-bar app for macOS that does voice to text for any input. You'll set a hotkey, press it, talk, press it again, and the text gets pasted into whatever field you were in. Everything runs locally and never leaves your computer. Fully OSS and MIT licensed. With macOS 26, Apple recently added two new APIs, SpeechAnalyzer and SpeechTranscriber, that do streaming on-device speech to text using models the OS ships and manages. So the app ships no model of its own and loads nothing before the first…

Hey HN! I’m Christian, daily lurker and some might remember our original launch post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42935355). Today we're launching Pinch for Mac, which we believe is a step-change improvement in real-time AI translation. Our vision is to make cross-lingual conversations feel as natural as regular conversations. TL:DR During an online meeting, the app instantly transcribes and translates all audio you hear, and allows you to decide when you translate your voice and when you don't. It's invisible to others (like Granola), and works everywhere without any…

...because Apple make it too hard to navigate chronologically through anything but your photos. Really they should have let you do this directly from voice memos so that you can share whenever and to wherever you want. If anyone has any suggestions to make it better, let me know. Thanks.

I'm a 23yo solo dev from Spain with a passion for UI/UX and I built Gramola, a music dock for macOS that is there when you need it. No more opening a music app to change what you're listening to; just move your mouse to the edge of the screen, and all your music is there in a gorgeous CoverFlow style, or ready to be instantly searched. Fully usable with a mouse, but also fully usable with keyboard, accessibility built in, and both Spotify and Apple Music support as well as local tracks via the Music app. Free to try for 7 days! I would love to know what you think :) Please feel free to…

We built a fully native Swift macOS screen recorder, with a big focus on simplicity, speed and high quality output. We record the camera, screen and audio separately and composite them into your chosen layout on the fly as you record, we get you a shareable URL super quick and you can change your mind on the layout post recording. We designed our online video pipeline around Mac Mini's, processing chunks of video in real-time and the code is shared with the macOS app so we are able to fully render both online and offline. Now that we have built the baseline product we are finally ready to…

Hello all, I made a small transcription app for your Mac based on OpenAI’s Whisper. Would love some feedback. My plan is to make it easy to load weights from any fine-tuned whisper model to enable specialized dictation for any subfield. It’s still early in development. Thanks!
