Enc is a CLI tool for encryption, a modern and friendly alternative to GnuPG. It is easy to use, secure by default and can encrypt and decrypt files using password or encryption keys, manage and download keys, and sign data. Our goal was to make encryption available to all engineers without the need to learn a lot of new words, concepts, and commands. It is the most beginner-friendly CLI tool for encryption, and keeping it that way is our top priority.

Hi HN! I built KeyPub.sh to solve the problem of user verification for CLI applications. It's essentially OAuth for the terminal, but using SSH keys that developers and users already have. - No installation needed - works with existing SSH setup - Privacy-focused: users control what email info is shared - Simple email verification process - Free public service - Perfect for CLI app developers who don't want to build user verification Try it with: `$ ssh keypub.sh about` Source code: https://github.com/skariel/keypub

Hi HN! I wrote a tool that partially encrypts files based on the presence of a HEREDOC. Check it out: https://github.com/higgins/privatize When added to a git repo, it will automatically transparently encrypt/decrypt files you want privatized. For example if you configured your repo to privatize the file `example.txt`, you could write: ``` Today I a burrito. <<PRIVATE I was on the toilet for hours. PRIVATE I got a lot of reading done. ``` but when git-commit'ed would become: ``` Today I a burrito. <<PRIVATE xuJ0fld2vmNWaVLogTIufmWsiFso PRIVATE I got a lot of reading…

Hey everyone, I've wanted an easy way to control which mcp server tools are available to clients. So for example, I might want a gmail server to only expose the read tool (but not send, delete etc). I figured if I create a cli for spawning mcp servers, I could intercept the stdin, stdout, stderr etc and modify what the clients see when they are making calls to list tools, resources, and prompts. Well it worked! In the initial version you can easily add a server to claude with a safe list of tools: npx -y mcpgod add @modelcontextprotocol/server-everything --client claude --tools=echo,add…

Hi HN, I'm Tyler Flint. Eight months ago we shared qtap here (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43928118). Today we're releasing DevTools - a browser-based interface that gives you the Chrome Network tab experience for server-side HTTP/S traffic. The problem: You're debugging a production issue. An external dependency is returning errors. Your logs say "request failed" but not what was actually sent. Adding debug logging means redeploying and restarting services - which takes time and often changes the conditions you're trying to debug. tcpdump shows encrypted blobs.…
