I’m working on a privacy-focused photo backup concept. Instead of syncing to cloud services like iCloud or Google, the idea is to let you back up photos directly to your own: PC or laptop HDD or NAS Private cloud or VPS It will use a secure peer-to-peer approach (similar to Tailscale) so your data stays in your control. I was frustrated with photo sharing sites. Apple's iCloud shared albums take 20+ seconds to load, and everything else comes with ads, cumbersome UIs, or social media distractions. I just want to share photos with friends and family: fast, mobile-friendly, distraction-free. So I built DD Photos. You export photos from whatever you already use (Lightroom, Apple Photos, etc.) into folders, run `photogen` (a Go CLI) to resize them to WebP and generate JSON indexes, then deploy the SvelteKit static site anywhere that serves files. I made a simple site that allows you to upload files. It requires no sign up and 100% free. The biggest advantage is that it returns you the direct URL to your file. So you can use it to store images for MD-based forum posts. Or put in your site's . I use the Cloudflare R2 storage which offers zero egress fees. So I pay $0 of transfer costs. Made a small tool to publish albums from Apple Photos online. The goal is to: 1) view photos in different ways: timeline, grid etc 2) allow people to bring their own domain 3) allow people to embed those photos in other places online Basically I'm trying to make apple photos web friendly.
