Products that do what Quickly copy a file between computers does

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a quick project I built a bit ago and finally cleaned up enough to post. The premise is simple, you have a file on one computer that you want on a different computer on the same network and don't want a lot of fuss. For the file you want to copy, on the machine where the file is located, run: ./bcp filename Now go to the computer (on the same network) where you want the file to be at, and run: ./bcp The file will be copied over the network and you're done. I created it as a nice way of not having to worry about ssh or anything else really. In fact, it is so…

This is a long-running project that started as the proverbial need to scratch my own itch and then somehow evolved into a full-time job of the past 6 years. Link: https://bvckup2.com I thought I'd do a Show HN for two reasons. 1. I obviously want to show my baby to those who haven't seen it. Its primary purpose is to do very fast file replication. If you are familiar with "robocopy /mir" - same idea, but on steroids. Lots of them. It can be used for both mirroring and archiving backups, among other things. It is light, very small and it is really quite fast. Half of the…

I've created a quick application that stores data in IPFS (http://ipfs.io) which is a distributed web implementation. It's working as expected, paste some content, get a hash in the url and send to a friend. The content will be there forever and distributed to peers that asks for it. Demo: http://ipfsbin.xyz/#QmXdMvJaRrSTCAcDFMZLUFfm9uGK6Wq7qEVcwbvaQRxq8x This have a couple of advantages, mainly that the same content would have the same hash, meaning that things wouldn't be duplicated. Source is available for people interested in that here:…

I built this because I am perpetually drowning in file transfer hell. As a systems engineer, I am constantly moving massive files. Whether it's getting new releases of custom ISOs to clients, downloading entire filesystems to spin up clones, or uploading massive support packages to L3. I always have to get something to somebody. Usually, it's something large that lives on a headless server. I can't tell you how many times I've modified my 'clone' script to tar most of a filesystem over ssh ("hello --exclude, my old friend...") just to get 10GB that someone will need for two days. Tedious is…
