I know we are very wary of AI slop but disclaimer: AI was used. I don't think that it is slop though and it was mostly used for formatting.

Hi All, since I am consistently overwhelmed with all the all the ai/gpt news on the hn front page I built this simple extension to filter out such articles and show them on the extension popup if I'm in the mood to read. I am interested in the topic but just tired of reading the similar discussions (local models, llama on mac, ai taking away our jobs, etc) all the time. Every few days I search for topics on hn.algolia.com and go over any exciting development. Ironically, since this was the first time I built an extension chat-gpt helped build 90% of the extension since . Also once…

I’ve been building a crowd-sourced AI detection benchmark. Two responses to the same prompt — one from a real human (pre-2022, provably pre prevalence of AI slop on the internet), one generated by AI. You pick the slop. Three wrong and you’re out. The dataset: 16K human posts from Reddit, Hacker News, and Yelp, each paired with AI generations from 6 models across two providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) at three capability tiers. Same prompt, length-matched, no adversarial coaching — just the model’s natural voice with platform context. Every vote is logged with model, tier, source, response…

Ok, so maybe "how to revive the internet" would be more accurate, but if you're reading this, I got your attention, right? Here's why I want you to read on: I built a free extension, D-slop, to disincentivize anyone from posting AI writing, and eventually images and video as well, on the internet. For writing, it checks known vocab and punctuation tells, as well as subtler tells related to cadence, and assigns it a score subject to an adjustable threshold. If the text fails, users have the option to flag offending text, hide it, or block the page entirely (with the option to see anyway). For…

I'm not going to lie to you, HN, this is just a stylesheet distributed as a browser extension because it's the easiest way for me both use it and keep it updated on all my browsers and devices. But if you want to hide AI Overviews on desktop and mobile and have someone keeping an eye out for new variants (which is the perfect word for Google finding new ways to infect their search results with them) and hiding them in a timely manner, I'm your man. Google seem to be continually adding new variants - in the last 12 hours I've pushed releases to hide AI Overviews now appearing as sections in…
