I had this idea rolling around in my head for the last couple of years, and I finally decided to build the damned thing just to get idea relief. The backend is a typical LAMP stack with the Symfony2 framework backing the P. Varnish sits in front of all the Chef managed Linode boxes. The site will work without Javascript (up until the checkout), and the style degrades really nicely depending on your viewport (try it out by resizing your browser). I'm open to all comments and critiques, so let me hear them. And if you are into graphic t-shirts, here is a code for a Hacker News 20% discount:…

Our little startup you've never heard of, called Vidpresso, is powering CNN's New Year's Eve social media ticker! It's a huge accomplishment for us. We're originally Utah based (our other employees are in NM and Karachi though) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bc3GdRrCUAAqLaN.jpg:large I'm posting this more out of sheer excitement than anything. I wanted to share that any startup anywhere can have exciting wins like this... regardless of whether you're in SV, went to MIT, or whatever. Just make something people want, and it'll work out. In 2014, start the thing you've been…

Friends, Romans, HNers! Link: http://hackerbyte.com This is my first “weekend project” and it was really fun doing it. The sleepless weekends nights when all my friends were our partying or something we (me and two friends) were busy creating ‘hackerByte’ - a weekly newsletter to share inspiration with start-up people. Nothing fancy - just we’d like to share some really nice stuff we read and some news with you, every week. We know that newsletters like these already exist so why one more? Because we are not really satisfied with what they are doing and here is our version of the wheel. We…

Hi Everyone, I've started a tech show called Techendo. It's just some startup guys from YC/Elsewhere that will be talking about things going on in the industry. It will be shot every other week and try to be as entertaining as possible while talking about tech and startup life. I'd love to spotlight startups/projects, have guests on the show, and shoot some skits. It's still a work in progress, so if you want to help out or just give feedback, it would be great to have any help I can get. Also, if you have topics you want us to talk about let me know. Thanks for your help HN. Check out our…

This weekend I participated in my first hackathon at TechCrunch Disrupt, and built an HTML5 game with a few people that I met at the event. We got honorable mention, putting us in the top 6 teams of 104 competing. I'm looking for some feedback on the game, so here it is: http://venturecrapital.us Source: https://github.com/wylieconlon/Venture-Crapital https://github.com/dmitric/venturecrapital-server

Hi HN, After watching a lot of Show HN's here, it's finally my turn to show something. This is the first real project I have shipped, so it is extra special to me. For those who will inevitably ask why I made yet another mockup editor I covered it on our blog (http://blog.mocktailsapp.in/why-build-yet-another-mockup-editor-tm). Not all the features mentioned in that post have been implemented yet. As such Mocktails is pre-beta software and very minimal. It does not even have user accounts or any actual server side component at all for that matter (yet)! Our intention is to build Mocktails…

Hello HN! Here's my November Startup Sprint project (coded in two days). http://hackerlunch.com It allows you to post your lunch plans and lets other hackers join you. I built this because I often see HN users are interested in meeting each other if they are in the same area. I am not a coder, so this version is very rough. If people use it, I will work with others to build a more polished version. I would love some feedback. What do you think? Is this something you will be using?

Startup Weekend just started in our city and we thought we'll build a Heroku autoscaler that really works, and saves you not only from slowly building traffic but from the slashdot effect as well.<p>Those who tried out ddollar's gem (and all forks of it) or even Heroscale know that the problem's not so trivial to solve.<p>We hope people will get it, and pay a small monthly fee to save many days of inrastructure coding so they can focus on business logic instead.<p>URL is: http://scalefu.com/

We built this using investor tools. I really wanted to know which startups to work for. Are we on the right track? PS - there's a paywall but if you want to explore more, just DM me your email and I'll give you free access in our db!
