I treated myself to a solo hackathon this weekend and built https://next-season-of.com. The data is scrapped from IMDB and the website is generated using the hugo template engine. There's still a lot of optimization to be done but I'm planning to use this as a learning ground to try and get my pages to rank in Google. Over this Christmas break, while discussing the best episodes of Frasier with my mother (as we tend to do when I get to see her), I thought about coming up with something that's less arbitrary than 1-10 ratings. The result is TV Sort. It just uses a sorting algorithm, but... it's human powered. So a while ago I was thinking it would be neat to build a site that had the most absolute utility. The idea I came up with was a site to store those little protips that are super useful, if you know them ahead of time. This was my recent weekend project, aimed at teaching me JavaScript, a bit of HTML5, and (mostly) WebGL. The orbital data are from NASA JPL. I built didtheywinornot.com this week in my spare hours before work. Currently it only does baseball scores, but as new seasons start in the fall, I think I'll expand it to other sports.
