Many years ago, I made VJ softwares (to mix live visuals in clubs) for unexpected platforms like the Game Boy Advance, the Playstation 2 and the Raspberry Pi. This year, I’m back with a new web-app: Pikimov. Inspired by Photopea (a free Photoshop clone), I created this web-based motion design & video editor as an alternative to After Effects, to fill empty void. It's free, without signup, without cloud uploads (your files stay on your machine), and your projects are not used for AI models training.

I tried to build AI game animation generator last year ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40395221), a lot of people were interested, but it failed, mainly because the technology was not good enough. 1 year passed, there were a lot of developments in video/image generation. I tried it again, I think it works super well now. Actually beyond my expectation. You can generate all kinds of game character animation sprites with only 1 image. 1, upload your image of your character 2, choose the action you want 3, generate! Support basic actions like Run, Jump, Punch and…

My background project for the last two years has been re-implementing my 2004 C++ shoot'em up game in TypeScript + WebGL, and it's finally done (just in time for the 20th anniversary!) Play the game online: https://nicollet.net/blog/darklaga/darklaga.html Technical article about the remake: https://nicollet.net/blog/darklaga/remake.html I have tested Firefox, Chrome and Edge on desktop and mobile (no access to a device capable of running Safari). It's amazing how much difference 20 years makes: the hardware is so much more powerful, the web…

This tool turns videos into ASCII pixel art. You can use your webcam feed or upload a video, then use the controls to adjust the colors, resolution, text style, etc. Github repo: https://github.com/collidingScopes/ascii It's built with javascript / html canvas. I'll be continuing to work on this, with the goal of improving performance (it can be laggy at high resolutions) and to also allow image input (turn an image into animated ASCII art). Please let me know of any feedback or suggestions!

Hello HN! I would like to show our recent research project: DynamiCrafter. DynamiCrafter can animate open-domain still images based on text prompt by leveraging the pre-trained video diffusion priors. It supports: - Image-to-video generation - Storytelling video generation - Looping video generation - Generative frame interpolation We have released source code at https://github.com/Doubiiu/DynamiCrafter and deployed a demo at https://huggingface.co/spaces/Doubiiu/DynamiCrafter Please also refer to…

We added a new feature to our open-source HTML5 game engine today that allows you to create Sprite GPU Layers. These pack together simple JS object definitions onto the GPU and renders them using a custom vertex shader. This skips all CPU computation and GPU upload operations, resulting in vastly increased performance. For objects that don't need to be updated by input, physics, or other interactive behaviors, we found it to be a great solution. In testing, we've easily managed to blast millions of sprites around on moderate desktop-grade GPUs. Indeed, we hit the fill rate limitation of the…

Hey everyone, my friend and I created a GitHub Wrapped video for developers to showcase their activity on the platform in a more fun way. The implementation is open-source (https://github.com/rendleyhq/github-wrapped-2024) if you're interested in how it was built. To get a bit geeky, we used masks, keyframe animations, luma key shaders to remove the background from the confetti video, and some other techniques. Also, everything is rendered directly in the browser!! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the rendering performance, especially if you're running this on your…

Hi HN, I built DanceJump as an experiment in making rhythm games more accessible. It overlays arrows on top of any YouTube video and lets you play directly in the browser using a keyboard, controller, or USB dance pad. It’s not meant to replace DDR or StepMania style simulators, but rather to make it possible to jump into songs that don’t normally have charts especially for quick or casual/family play. It currently ships as a Chrome extension because it needs tight integration with the YouTube player and low-latency input handling. Everything runs fully client-side, no accounts, no…

Simply upload your image(s) and pick the desired motion settings to create eye-catching videos! We are launching our AI creators platform and would love to hear your feedback on. You will have free credits once you sign up to explore various capabilities. Motion settings include shape, range, length, and loops. You can also try AI motions with optional text prompt and quantity so you can iterate faster. Furthermore, we provide a batch form where businesses & creators can drop their entire images’ catalog and process them at scale saving them a lot of time and cost. Let us know what you think…
