I figured I needed to work on my coding skills before building the next groundbreaking AI app, so I started working on this free tool site. Its basically just an aggregation of various commonly used calculators and unit convertors. Link: https://www.calcverse.live Tech Stack: Next, React, Typescript, shadcn UI, Tailwind CSS Would greatly appreciate your feedback on the UI/UX and accessibilty. I struggled the most with navigation. I've added a search box, a sidebar, breadcrumbs and pages with grids of cards leading to the respective calculator or unit convertor, but not sure if…

My cofounder and I have been working on a site called Fitocracy (www.fitocracy.com), which is a social game for fitness. The idea was very much inspired by our experiences growing up as nerds playing video games, later on discovering weightlifting, and drawing the parallel between working out and "leveling yourself up." XKCD has a pretty well known comic to this effect: http://xkcd.com/189/. We find that the metaphor of workout out as leveling up in a video game resonates with quite a few people, so Fitocracy is an attempt to bring that to life. On Fitocracy, tracking your workouts earns you…

Hey Hacker News! I've been working on an open-source project called LLM Alignment Template, a comprehensive toolkit designed to help researchers, developers, and data scientists align large language models (LLMs) with human values using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). What the project does: Interactive Web Interface: Easily train models, visualize alignment metrics, and manage alignment with an accessible UI. Training with RLHF: Align models effectively to human preferences using feedback loops. Explainability: Built-in dashboards to help understand model behavior using…

at a pub in london, 2 weeks ago - I asked myself, if you spawned agents into a world with blank neural networks and zero knowledge of human existence — no language, no economy, no social templates — what would they evolve on their own? would they develop language? would they reproduce? would they evolve as energy dependent systems? what would they even talk about? so i decided to make myself a god, and built WERLD - an open-ended artificial life sim, where the agent's evolve their own neural architecture. Werld drops 30 agents onto a graph with NEAT neural networks that evolve their own…

Hey HN, We explored how decision-making happens under severe information asymmetry and used career exploration as a test subject. In practice, people converge on a small set of highly legible default paths, with little visibility into credible alternatives. That’s why we’re building Fig, a tool for reasoning about career paths when the next step isn’t obvious, given the dependence on fleeting personal preferences. Most existing tools respond by collapsing uncertainty into a single recommendation or by modeling careers as linear trajectories. That works reasonably well at the recruiting…

I made a strategy game where you play the US or China through the AI race, 2026 to 2030, sixteen quarterly turns in the browser. One run takes about half an hour. At the start, the game seals two dice you never get to see. Inside: how hard alignment really is, and how fast takeoff compounds. You get eval reports, but only as ranges, and they flatter you most exactly when your systems are least aligned. At the end you get a debrief which shows what your evals said each quarter and also what was actually true. I lost every run I played myself so far. Every number in the game is source-backed…

I'm a VP of Engineering with 20 years in the field. I've been thinking deeply on why AI is breaking every engineering practice, and it led me to the conclusion that the Agile Manifesto's values need updating. The core argument: AI made producing software cheap, but understanding it is still expensive. The Manifesto optimizes for the former. This addendum shifts the emphasis toward the latter. Four updated values, three refined principles, with reasoning for each. Happy to discuss and defend any of it.

Hey HN! Recently published a book developing new frameworks of meaning and value informed by our most advanced cosmology and physics. It makes the argument for the necessity of spiritual revolution in order to free the abundance trapped in the world, a reimagination that interlinks the spiritual project to systemic reformation. The inspiration for the text draws from my history of social impact work and the frustrations and lessons learned along the way. If it's of interest you can learn more/read it/download it in a variety of formats for free at https://singletruth.org.

I wanted a way for people to support companies and people that align with their political beliefs. Additionally, I think it can serve as a valuable, source-linked public ledger of who said and did what over time, especially as incentives change and people try to rewrite their positions. This is fully AI-coded, researched, and sourced. Additionally, AI helped develop the scoring system. The evidence gathering is done by a number of different agents through OpenRouter that gather and classify source-backed claims. The point of that is not to pretend bias disappears, but to avoid me manually…

I put together a repo called Spoon-Bending, it is not a jailbreak or hack, it is a structured logical framework for studying how GPT-5 responds under different framings compared to earlier versions. The framework maps responses into zones of refusal, partial analysis, or free exploration, making alignment behavior more reproducible and easier to study systematically. The idea is simple: by treating prompts and outputs as part of a logical schema, you can start to see objective patterns in how alignment shifts across versions. The README explains the schema and provides concrete tactics for…

Hey! Just launched my new project. The cmaps platform was created after a long period of research and development in the field of education. It's known that human thinking is not linear, but rather associative. Without realizing it, we are constantly making connections between the things we learn. I believe that the best way to learn is to make these connections explicit. Instead of studying and taking notes in a linear fashion, we should be able to create a map of the concepts we are learning. This way, we can see the big picture and understand how everything is connected. I can say that…

Hi HN! I’ve spent the summer of the past 2 years building The Atlas, a procedural universe simulator that generates 1 sextillion galaxies (10²¹) from a single mathematical seed. Think No Man’s Sky meets theoretical physics, but running entirely in your browser. Everything is purely deterministic, the universe is calculated from SHA-256 hashed seeds using the golden ratio as primordial constant. There’s no database, no pre-saved data, just pure math. Time itself is treated as a coordinate, so the universe exists as a 4D structure where any moment can be computed on demand. Shut it down for…

With massive respect to Jeff Sutherland and all the thought leaders who met at a ski lodge in Snowbird, Utah, in 2001 and created the Agile Manifesto - it might be time to revisit / refresh / revitalize the Agile Manifesto in light of the emergence of LLMs. The scarce resource is no longer programming capacity, but organizational clarity and architectural coherence. As a thought exercise (and for fun) I took a stab at it. I would love to get some collaborative feedback to improve it. Of course I do not expect this to replace the Agile Manifesto but I'd like to use it when speaking…
