Products that do what The First web site ever programmed in ActionScript 3.0 does

http://www.burrrn.com In 2006 Adobe open sourced the ActionScript Virtual Machine (AVM2), I started to work on the open source project redtamarin on 2008, and now I can finally show a web site entirely programmed with ActionScript 3.0 on the backend. here the basic software stack: - Linux Ubuntu 64-bit for the operating system - Apache for the HTTP server - Redtamarin for the backend programming - CouchDB for the database everything is handled by one single ABC (actionscript bytecode) file, I did that at first to keep things simple but in fact it is extremely convenient to have a…

Hi HN! I’m Alex from Parabola (https://parabola.io). Parabola is a visual programming tool for creating functional data flows that everyone can use. It’s entirely drag-and-drop, handles data sizes much larger than a traditional spreadsheet, calculates everything live, and can run your flows on a schedule of your choosing. I used to work in strategy consulting, doing data analytics for SMBs and Fortune 500 companies. The amount of time wasted on menial tasks was astounding. Things like cleaning data, generating custom reports, creating human workflows to solve shortcomings in third…

http://instacss.com (in case DNS update hasn't propagated: http://morning-warrior-3377.herokuapp.com/) Last night I was annoyed at how slow (and web 1.0-ish) most CSS reference sites seem to be, so I created this. It's basically a scrape of the CSS reference on w3schools, but with client side searching. Feedback is most welcome! some of the tech involved: node, requirejs, backbone, mongodb the code: http://github.com/rgarcia/instacss

Have been building a web IDE & browser based code editor and v2.0 has now launched. Contains a whole load of features beyond just code highlighting such as online & offline use, code completion, type boosting, Emmet, database management, find & replace builder, auto backups, Github syncing and a whole lot more. Oh, and it's free & open source. Any and all feedback welcomed.

I built a small demo showing a robotics runtime executing entirely inside the browser via WebAssembly. The example workload is a simple flight controller hooked up to a small world simulator. The runtime comes from copper-rs, an open-source robotics runtime written in Rust for deterministic workloads. While robotics stacks are often tightly coupled to specific OS distributions and environments, here, the same code runs on microcontrollers (for example this flight controller also compiles for STM32H7 and flies real drones) as well as on desktop OS targets like Linux, macOS, and Windows. The…

Hi HN! We (pdubroy & marianoguerra) just launched an online book called WebAssembly from the Ground Up. It's an online book to learn Wasm by building a simple compiler in JavaScript. This is the book we wish we'd had 3 years ago. Unlike many WebAssembly resources that focus on use cases and tooling, we wanted a deep dive into how Wasm actually works. We focus on the core of WebAssembly: the module format and the instruction set. We think the low-level details — the "virtual ISA" — are the most interesting part, and we had the crazy idea that writing a compiler is the best way to learn it.…

Hey HN. I've just launched my very first webappp and would love your feedback. http://www.7bks.com It's a book list sharing website - kind of like playlists for bookworms. The site is built on pyton/appengine - and I learned to code in under 4 weeks to build the site. There's more details on the background of the site here: http://www.7bks.com/blog/179001 I've also published the full Python code for the site here: https://gist.github.com/670034 Feedback is really important to me and I want to work hard to make the site better so any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Hi Hacker News. Today, we're excited to launch Aircada, a lightweight browser based 3D design studio for creating interactive 3D content on the web. We remember using three.js back in 2010 before we had smart phones. And now 15 years later it feels like 3D on the web is finally starting to see the light of day. We use the beloved three.js under the hood - with WebGPU alongside the awesome node material system and TSL shader language. 1 minute demo video showing off what Aircada can do: https://youtu.be/hAJPnP93pfA Hop right into a template:…

Hey all - we decided to build an open-source (https://www.github.com/swishjam/tagsafe) tool to self-host and version control all of your third party javascript on your website's frontend. What's the problem with third party javascript? Honestly, there's quite a few issues. Here are some of the most relevant ones: 1. You don't have control over what the 3P JS does on your site or when updates are made to it. With each 3P tag added to your site, you give the ability for someone else to push changes to your site without your knowledge or control. 2. There are lots of…

process demo - https://i.redd.it/fbhlwsq1gcmg1.gif render demo - https://i.redd.it/smddwtryhcmg1.gif I love making creative software. I spent a few years making pixel art software but recently have gotten into 3d animation and 2d animation and really wanted a way to realize crazy ideas. Blockbench didn't feel quite right, spline is super well made but felt catered too much to just idle website animations, and I really didn't want to fall down a master class in Blender just to make some silly stuff. While I'm definitely not discounting Blender's literal…

Hi everyone! We’re Avishay, Or, and Michal, co-founders of Anima (www.animaapp.com). Anima converts design (Figma/Sketch/XD) into code automatically. Up until today, we only produced HTML/JS/CSS. With our latest release, we can now also generate developer-friendly React code. We’re here to replace image-based handoff, which involves a lot of grunt work for the engineers who have to translate all those images into code that does the same thing. For designers, the pain we solve is the ping-pong, and their vision getting lost in translation. The bottom line is that teams can…

Hey HN! Last week I was working on a website and needed a way to synchronise visuals with live music. I've used MIDI controllers for this before, but I am travelling right now and don't have mine with me. So I had the crazy idea to build a browser extension that uses the keyboard as input and includes a sequencer. I gave myself 24 to work on it. It ended up taking longer (of course), specially since I ended up creating a demo, a small landing, docs, and an intro video. Took me one week from idea to launch (pushed quite a bit tbh). Features: - Works as a browser extension. Atm distributed…

Hi HF, I'm Terrell, and we built an open-source app that lets developers create their own Operator with a Next.js/React front-end and a flask back-end. The purpose is to simplify spinning up virtual desktops (Xfce, VNC) and automate desktop-based interactions using computer use models like OpenAI’s There are already various cool tools out there that allow you to build your own operator-like experience but they usually only automate web browser actions, or aren’t open sourced/cost a lot to get started. Spongecake allows you to automate desktop-based interactions, and is fully open…

After ~1.5+ yrs of posting here (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18755996) about webgo, this is an update, the release of v4.0.7. I know a lot of people consider "web frameworks, router etc." a joke/amateur/reinventing the wheel. But I've been able to learn a lot from it and am happy maintaining this package. Hope you like it! Webgo maintains its promise of standard library compliance, and getting out of the execution path asap. And this version comes with quite a lot of performance improvement in terms of latency, memory usage and better code altogether.…

I created Pylon to make it easier to move from hobby projects to full production apps. When I work on hobby projects, I usually use React or Next.js because they are quick to set up and easy to deploy on Vercel. For production apps, I separate the frontend and backend, then deploy the backend on AWS. But setting up a full backend on AWS can be complex and costly, especially for simple apps. Pylon is a full-stack, real-time framework that includes server-rendered React, TypeScript functions, entities, policies, real-time sync, built-in authentication, and support for background and scheduled…

Hey HN, I built a custom IDE in the browser as part of the Open Data Capture platform. It is based on the Monaco editor, which also powers VS Code. Unfortunately, there are very few examples online showing how to use Monaco with more advanced features (e.g., TypeScript/JSX support, Prettier integration, multiple files), so I figure this could be helpful for some folks out there. I built this to allow semi-technical users to design instruments (e.g., forms and interactive tasks) for our data capture platform. It includes a custom build toolchain, based on the esbuild-wasm build, that…

HN, I would appreciate some feedback on my first coding project ever. It's a visual instant search for iTunes (using Apple's API) I consider it MVP at this point, some features are still missing. I've tested the site in Safari, IE, and Firefox, and it seems to work in all of them. http://38069.vs.webtropia.com/tester/test/ (not too fancy of a URL) My background is nowhere near coding or designing (English major in the making, quite sure my code shows) and I only knew some basic PHP going into this last week, so don't be too harsh. Why this idea? I strongly believe visual search will be…

Hi HN, I’ve been working on an AI-powered website builder that allows anyone to create a fully functional website in just a few minutes. No coding, no design skills—just a simple, intuitive process with AI handling the heavy lifting. Here’s what you can do with it: • Create a website by entering a name, description, and subdomain. • Use AI to design the site, customize content, and edit sections with simple prompts. • Preview, tweak, and publish your website live instantly. • Download the code for full flexibility if you want to self-host or integrate. It’s still an MVP, and I’ve got lots of…

Hi HN, I'm one of the engine programmers at All Out Games (https://allout.game/), a multiplayer-first gaming UGC platform where creators can make and play games with their friends. For scripting we wanted our creators to be able to jump in and create game mechanics without having to think about networking. If a developer had to manually send packets to/from client/server to get things to happen then we have failed. It is particularly bad if you are using AI tools because they struggle to keep in mind what code is meant to run where (client, server, or both) and…
