The time it takes can scale pretty proportionally to some combination of the value, relative importance, and complexity of the purchase. I wanted to quantify the endless "which knife should I buy" debates on r/chefknives, so I built a data analysis pipeline to get some real answers. The project is a 5-phase system built with Node.js. It first uses Fuse.js for fast, typo-tolerant fuzzy matching of ~450 known brands and ~8,700 models. I wanted to find a product idea to build. "Build things people want," right? So I thought, why not literally find people saying what they want? I wrote a script to collect thousands of Reddit posts where people are looking for a solution or complaining about a problem.
