Offline safety app for high-altitude trekking

Hi HN! This is a trail companion web app (think AllTrails) I hacked together in a couple weeks time. I was inspired to create this project while training for an extended backpacking trip. My motivation was to create a UI tailored exactly to my liking, and to be able to track my progress along the trail without draining my battery. I also wanted to experiment with PWA technologies. I successfully used it on my five day adventure along the Knobstone Trail in southern Indiana, and even though it's web-based it hardly consumed any battery life on my old first-gen Pixel XL. It's set up currently…

i wanted to change the habit of reaching for my phone in the morning and doomscrolling away an hour so i built an app to help me. now i have to literally touch grass before accessing my most distracting apps the app is built in swiftui, uses the screen time apis provided by apple and google vision to recognise grass or not i'd love to get your thoughts on the concept.

A couple of months ago, I built this app to help identify people stuck under rubble. First responders have awesome tools. But in tough situations, even common folks need to help. After what happened in Myanmar, we need something like this that works properly. It has only been tested in controlled environments. It can also be improved; I know BLE is not _that_ effective under rubble. If you have any feedback or can contribute, don't hold back.

Hey HN, I built MBCompass, a lightweight, privacy-friendly compass app for Android. It works fully offline, doesn’t ask for unnecessary permissions (no GPS, no internet), and is open source. Most compass apps out there are bloated or ad-heavy. I wanted something clean, fast, and featurish. So I made this! It’s only ~1.7 in size and uses a low-pass filter to smooth sensor readings. I’d love feedback or thoughts – especially from others building simple, privacy-first apps! https://f-droid.org/packages/com.mubarak.mbcompass/…

I have been working on a new mountain biking app for the last year called Hangtime. It is a free ride computer app that uses a smartphone's GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, and altimeter to track a mountain bike ride. After recording a ride, the user can go back and see their performance in turns, jumps, climbs, etc. Below is a video that shows off some of the app's features. https://youtu.be/TXiwzf-UJhQ I wasn't sure I could get the performance required from Flutter/Dart vs. native as a one hour ride generates well over a million data points from all of the sensor data.…

Hi HN, I’m a high school student in Seattle who loves riding hills. I found that route makers like Google Maps get you from point A to B on a bike, but they don’t give you fun routes. So i made my own RouteScout lets you: - Control the surfaces (never gravel or dirt with a road bike!) on the route - Indicate your preference for hills (I LOVE or HATE hills gives you different routes) - Prefer routes with bike lanes and cycling paths and roads made for bikes. - Filter types of roads (big roads gone!) - And when looping around it won’t take you back on the same exact road on the way back…
