24 alternatives to Using AI to write picture books
Ever wanted to create your own picture book? Introducing Mr. Seuss! Just input images of your protagonist and a basic storyline and he'll produce a (funny but weird) picture book for you using AI. The linked colab uses GPT-J to generate a story and Dreambooth Stable Diffusion to generate relevant pictures to the story. It's completely free and takes around 30 minutes to run on the free tier of colab. Let me know what you think in the comments! So excited to see what's possible for storytelling using AI.
Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Using AI to write picture books launched in 2022; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

Hey together with wife we took part in AssemblyAI hackathon and although we didn't win we felt good enough about our inital MVP that we took it a bit further. You can describe your characters and give a title and however long/detailed description you want, the gpt-3 will generate a children's story from it, dall-e will generate images. Images are postprocessed with stable-diffusion custom model (for stylisation) and that's the final result. It's still early as it was done in about 2 weeks, but I count on your feedback. I am software engineer and did basically all of the engineering work…

Two of my friends recently welcomed their first child and I "wrote" a kid's book for them using ChatGPT for the story and Midjourney for illustrations. The plot was sourced from a group of friends.

Hey HN, I want to share a personal project: I made a tiny pen-plotted book for my wife. I did everything myself—drawings (with some help from Midjourney), plotting, cutting, and binding. I even used a 3D printer to make a helper tool. It's absolutely over-engineered, but I enjoyed it a lot. Multi-disciplinary projects, especially those with a physical output, are a lot of fun for me. The post covers the process in detail, but if you're interested in anything specific, let me know. Cheers!

Just go to the link and click on "Start Creating". No signing in required. I built shortbread to help anyone to create comics / manga series. The onboarding process helps you kick start a page from 60%, then you can use your creativity to bring it to 1000% in a fully-controllable editor. Tech stack: GPT 3.5 Turbo - the comic script generation. It handled everything from layout, character, scene, SD prompts, to dialogue. SD 1.5 - We put up SD servers on GCP. For every comic we generate one large image and crop it into panels. Per the experiments of u/Deathmarkedadc on Reddit, this…

I had 2 weeks off from work and wanted a pet project before heading back. With GPT and Generative AI in the news, I decided to chain multiple Al products together to build something really cool. I set my end goal to be: prompt-to-storyboard (aka fun videos generated purely via generative AI). There exists some prompt-to-video products, but I wanted to tell stories with audio as well. The end product takes an initial prompt and produces a series of images and audio files, which I then combine (with subtitles) into the final video. To showcase videos, there is a basic upvote/downvote…

YouStory▲39When the Gemini storybook demo was released, we were thrilled to see others shared our vision for interactive storytelling. Great minds, it seems, think alike! We were already deeply immersed in building YouStory, and that shared excitement only fueled our obsession with execution, pushing us to create an even more polished and magical experience. Our AI agent lets you upload a photo of your child, their pet, drawings, doodles or a favorite toy to star as the hero. We combine this with a premium, non-generic art style and a collaborative agent you guide through conversation, making the…

This is my attempt to do something fun with generative AI. I've tested this with some family members and their kids seems to love it. It's a bit pricey to make the stories and I've gone back and forth a bit on pricing models. I've settled on free for now and if it gets traction I can solve that problem later. I would love to get your feedback on the site! For the technical details - this was built with NextJS, hosted on Vercel, and coded with Cursor + Claude Code. We're not allowed to use Cursor or Claude Code at work, so this has been quite eye opening to see how good this stuff actually…
