Products that do what Vicinae – open-source, Raycast-compatible command palette, now on macOS does

10 months ago I posted on HN to announce the initial release of Vicinae, an "everything" command palette compatible with the Raycast extension ecosystem, only available on Linux. Today, after months of work, I'm finally releasing the first macOS version of Vicinae, with full feature parity with the Linux version! From a technical standpoint, it is still a Qt/C++ app with a Node.js powered extension runtime (like Raycast). Something as deeply system-integrated requires calling a lot of native APIs, and when I started the port I wasn't quite sure how easy it would be. Turns out it went a…

I've built a thing! A few months back someone (not me) posted my Mac app Droplings to HN. It was incredibly rough around the edges back then, and in alpha. Well, it's finished now and sparkles like crazy. Please take a look! :)

I posted Aurion OS a few weeks ago on HN. Since then, the OS has gone from Beta to v1.0 Release with a lot of improvements: Blaze Browser: HTML/CSS/JS rendering with tabs and a developer console (local only, no full http/https support for now) Installer with user account setup and app selection Multi-resolution support (800x600 to 2560x1440, I plan to add 4096x2160 pixels in next versions) Unix-style luka@aurion prompt Serbian keyboard layout Python interpreter and Make build system 50+ terminal commands Window manager improvements and bug fixes 1.8MB ISO (entire OS including…

I started this as a weekend project and posted it on HN 5 years ago. 300,000 users later, I just released v4 today. Octotree [1] gives GitHub a sidebar that improves file navigation and code/pull request review. Works on Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari. Any comment or feedback is appreciated. Hey HN! I've been working on Muxamp for over a year now, and I decided that there's no point in keeping the source closed. (I never planned on making money from it.) I've learned a lot since I started, and I hope others can benefit from its release--and perhaps teach me a thing or two as well :)

Hey everyone! I am excited to share updates on four of my & my teams' open-source projects that take large-scale search systems to the next level: USearch, UForm, UCall, and StringZilla. These projects are designed to work seamlessly together, end-to-end—covering everything from indexing and AI to storage and networking. And yeah, they're optimized for x86 AVX2/512 and Arm NEON/SVE hardware. USearch [1]: Think of it as Meta FAISS on steroids. It's now quicker, supports clustering of any granularity, and offers multi-index lookups. Plus, it's got more native bindings than probably…

I believe that command palettes are one of the greatest inventions for improving productivity of a complex application. I wanted to see if the concept could be taken much further. Specifically to the point that I could be more efficient than using hotkeys. I feel that I have achieved that goal for myself. However, I am very curious to get broader input on the concepts on which I have been working. I have a concrete implementation I have built for Eclipse here with some animated gifs: https://github.com/dakaraphi/eclipse-plugin-commander/blob/m... The conceptual…

http://ghn.cloudapp.net/ If you can, try right-clicking on an image. This page started off as a random collection of stuff I wanted to try out (spinning up an Azure linux VM included) where I gave myself "1 hour per feature" to learn new stuff. Shell scripts, command-line webkit-based png rendering, pcntl_fork, piwik... Fun stuff. I know, yet another view of HN, no biggie. I welcome all feedback and questions!

Hi HN! I've never posted anything on here before, but this project was too fun to pass up. I've been learning a lot about agents lately, and wanted to see if I could replicate some of the results of Windsurf and Cursor. Generally I love these tools, but when you're stuck behind an "enterprise" firewall, they don't work as well. This sad state of affairs motivated me to understand SWE agents more. Does it work? Yes. Is it as good as Cursor and Windsurf? Not quite, but it's pretty darn close, depending on the model you use. I'm lacking a few features like semantic indexing, MCP support, but…

Hey , I've created Pixeleye, a cross-browser visual review and testing platform. I've found the pricing of visual testing platforms quite absurd, with companies often opting out of testing their UI's across different browsers. We offer a cloud version of our product but also provide the tools to self-host it for free. We hope this will keep our pricing honest and promote a sustainable open-source community around the project. Some of our main features include: - Cross-browser testing - Lots of integrations: Storybook, Cypress, Playwright & Puppeteer - Permission syncing - We'll sync with…

Hi HN, I just wanted to share what I have been working on for the past few months: A firmware analyzer for embedded Linux systems that helps uncovering security issues running entirely in the browser. This is a very early Alpha. It is going to be rough around the edges. But I think it provides quite a lot of value already. So please go ahead and drop a firmware (only .tar rootfs archives for now) and try to break it :)

I built a lightweight Neovim GUI client for macOS. The goal was something simple — just render Neovim in a proper macOS window with multi-window support, like MacVim did for Vim. Features: - Metal GPU-accelerated rendering (falls back to CoreText) - Multi-window — each window is an independent Neovim process - Neovim's native tabline with Cmd+1-9 - Full IME support for CJK input - Standard macOS shortcuts work out of the box (Cmd+C/V/X/Z/S/W) - CLI launcher with gvimdiff support - Uses your system-installed Neovim — no bundled binary The whole thing was built in a…

So, I've never written a line of Rust in my life. I wouldn't know an `&mut this` from a mutandis. But I saw a tweet about a month ago that said, in this new era of AI, you'd be able to just take a library that you love, throw a TUI around it, and call it an app. So I spent about 200 bucks last month, here's what I came up with: Imbolc is a DAW that runs entirely in your terminal. It talks to scsynth over OSC and ships 58 instruments and 39 effects. VSTs are a work in progress, also GarageBand loops if you want to recreate "Umbrella". The codebase is about 60k? lines of Rust across 5 crates,…

Try it at: ssh krnl.duetbrowser.com No sign up, totally free - no download. Let me know what you think. Prior art exists (brow.sh) but I wasn't satisfied with their graphical take. I wanted the raw, old skool terminal days of the early internet - BBS, and old green phosphor library comptuers - but running the modern web, with all the bells and jingle jangle whistles (JavaScript, etc). No funding, no VC, just 100% raw terminal fun. Not sure how long the demo will last, but try it out.

After seeing a cool demo of a hack on Twitter, I built a cross platform version of it that works well and uses streaming. From anywhere on Mac and Linux, trigger Ollama and optionally feed it your clipboard. I built it yesterday and it's already very useful to me. I'm pretty excited about it and wanted to share!

Hello there, I’m working on a desktop viewer application for WebAssembly modules for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and I’m looking to have some feedback from real-world use. The application is fairly small, requires no installation for now, and is limited to the minimum functionality, but I have more features in mind for the future. Testers would get a free license including future releases. If you’re interested, drop me a mail at [email protected] with the platform(s) you could test on. It would be helpful if you could tell me about in what capacity do you work with WebAssembly,…
