It was a lot of work as a solo project but I hope you guys think it’s cool. When I say “we” in the website it’s only in the most royal sense possible. I also did all the photo/videography. I started out designing a single machine for personal use, but like many things it sort of spiraled out of control from there. I felt like espresso machines were getting very large, plasticky, and app-integrated without actually improving the underlying technologies that make them work. The noisy vibratory pumps in particular are from 1977 and haven’t really changed since then. So I wanted to focus on…

I built this website to host a data-driven model of my coffee sample roaster. I realized after 20 or so batches on the machine that while the controls are intuitive (heat, fan, and drum speeds), the physics can be unintuitive. I wanted to use my historical roast data to create and tune a model that I could use to do roast planning, control, and to help me build my own intuition for roasting. This website lets you interact with my roaster in a virtual, risk-free setting! The models are custom Machine Learning modules that honor roaster physics and bean physics (this is not…

This is my adventure reverse engineering a De'Longhi coffeemaker's Bluetooth-Low-Energy-based protocol, writing a rust CLI for it, and hooking it up to GitHub actions to let us brew from either the browser or the GitHub app by filing issues (all the coffee are defined in issue templates).

It’s available on iOS now: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id6499280064 We got into specialty coffee during COVID and, like many others, fell deep down the rabbit hole. Along the way, we ran into the same frustrations: - A drawer full of empty coffee bags. - No simple way to track grind size, rest dates, notes—by bean. - My coffee history scattered across photos, screenshots, notebooks, and half-memories. - The unique traits, people, and stories behind each coffee disappearing from the internet once it sold out (since coffee is an agricultural good) - In our opinion, no…
