Yes, it's open source: https://github.com/lissy93/web-check :) Why I'm building this? There are a lot of tools out there for discovering meta and security data relating to a website, IP or server. But currently, there isn't anything that does everything, all in one place and without a paywall/ user sign up. It's still a WIP, and I'm working on a new version, with some more comprehensive checks, so any feedback would be much appreciated :)

A FOSS chrome extension that attempts to remove the annoyance of cookie pop ups and banners. There are some extensions out there that auto-accept cookies, but I didn't find one that auto rejected cookies without either chaining some extensions together or setting up custom rules in tools like uBlock origin. So with this extension, you just need to add it for non-essential cookies to be rejected. Google’s recent announcement of a proposed ‘Device Bound Session Credentials’ feature[1] for Chrome reminded me of a project we worked on last year at my company. We focus on fraud prevention at signup and login (preventing multi-accounting and account theft), but some customers were concerned about post-login security and asked us to add a session hijacking prevention feature to our fraud prevention API. In the end, we decided to just implement a solution in Javascript. We call it session-lock, and it can be used today across all browsers[2] and, theoretically, native mobile apps. For a…

Hey HN! Wanted to share a new library and server I've recently been working on called remoteStorage. When building frontends with Javascript, the native localStorage API is super useful for keeping track of state between sessions in the same browser, but it's not as good a solution when your data needs to be shared across multiple devices or browsers. For instance, let's say you want to show a welcome modal to all new users that sign up for your product. If you use localStorage to track if a user has already seen this modal, your users will end up getting the experience repeatedly every time…
