I pretty much always have a kernel project going on, and have been that way for decades. Over the past couple of years, that's been Anos, which has gotten further along than any of my previous hobby kernels, supporting IPC, multitasking, SMP (x86-64 only right now) and running on real hardware. LLMs (mostly Claude Code) have been used during development, but I learned early on that it's not _great_ at code at this level, so I've restricted its use to mostly documentation and tests. Hello everyone, We've discovered an open source library named Viro that hadn't been updated in over two years. We've revitalized the library, enabling the creation of XR apps on the latest iOS and Android platforms. Our goal is to transform NativeVision into a versatile library that can be used across various XR devices, including Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest. Our aim is to make it easy for React developers to start working on XR projects using React Native or Expo, much like how they would for iOS or Android apps. Hi there! I've been on-and-off working on TacOS for a few months, which follows some UNIX-derived concepts (exec/fork, unix-style VFS, etc) and is now able to run a port of Doom, with a fairly small amount of modifications, using my from-scratch libc. This is my operating system that I've been working for the past 2 years. All of the code is written exclusively by me except from ported software. banan-os has a monolithic kernel targeting x86 (i686) and x86_64 architectures. Hi HN! I've been working on Bor, an open-source system for centralized Linux desktop management. Bor consists of a lightweight Go agent and a central server. Policies are streamed to clients over mTLS/gRPC in real time—no polling—and currently support Firefox, Chrome, KDE, dconf, polkit and package management, with more coming. "After Dark" by Berkeley Systems was a collection of screensavers for Macintosh and Windows from early 90s; "Flying Toasters" is probably the most famous and loved among them. Using my very limited knowledge of C and X11 programming, I recreated it as a XScreensaver module for Linux. Hope you find it useful or at least amusing!
