It's very simple, just click the pieces you want to add to the chessboard to select them, then click the square on the chessboard you want to add them to. There are buttons to quickly get the start position, empty the board, flip the board and paste in a FEN position that you want to see displayed. To highlight a move you can put it in the little textbox, just put in something like "d2d4" to highlight a move from d2 to d4. If the move is a straight or diagonal line the whole line will be highlighted, otherwise only the two squares will be. Every change you will make updates the url in the address bar, so you can always just copy that to get a link to this page showing that exact position.…from chessboardimage.com

We built ChessBoss at the TechCrunch Disrupt hackathon this week. It didn’t make the top 10 but I thought Hacker News might think it’s pretty cool. https://devpost.com/software/chess-boss There are these really cool smart chessboards that can suggest moves and track your games... but they’re $400 and weigh 19 pounds. And of course there are apps that can analyze games but tracking and inputting games by hand is a huge pain. Or fully-digital chess apps... but board games are way more fun in real life! We wondered: “why can’t you just do that in software and bring the best…

Hello HN, For a few months I'm been working on a fun side-project to port the (awesome) chessboardjs library to an easily reusable and embeddable web component. Styling is encapsulated and customizable with CSS properties and parts: chess-board { --dark-color: darkmagenta; } /* Highlight the e2 square in red */…

Hey folks. Last year I was fortunate enough to sign a deal to write a book with my favorite technical publisher, The Pragmatic Bookshelf. When I started out as an Engineering Manager many years ago, I found that there wasn't a huge amount of material that specifically and practically helped me understand how to do my job. When you learn to program there's all of these amazing tutorials, examples and guides, but what was there for new managers? In response to this, a couple of years ago I started a blog over at https://www.theengineeringmanager.com which got a decent amount of…
