Alien Abducto-rama: a FUN browser game I made with my kids

I built this over the holiday break with my two girls (ages 6 and 8). You pilot a UFO and beam up humans, cows, cats, dogs, and sheep for points. They drew all the art while I talked to Claude Code to scaffold the game logic. The magic moment was watching my kids use voice dictation to talk directly to Claude Code. My 8-year-old asked for a "purpler" tractor beam and watched it change in real time. She wasn’t coding, but she _was_ driving: describing what she wanted, testing the result, and iterating fast. It was really cool to watch... later on she asked me what javascript was and we dug…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

I built this over the holiday break with my two girls (ages 6 and 8). You pilot a UFO and beam up humans, cows, cats, dogs, and sheep for points. They drew all the art while I talked to Claude Code to scaffold the game logic. The magic moment was watching my kids use voice dictation to talk directly to Claude Code. My 8-year-old asked for a "purpler" tractor beam and watched it change in real time. She wasn’t coding, but she _was_ driving: describing what she wanted, testing the result, and iterating fast. It was really cool to watch... later on she asked me what javascript was and we dug into the source. Since then we've added a UFO Shopping Mall between waves (spend UFO bucks on power-ups), bombs, laser turrets, a dodge roll called "warp juke," and a top 100 leaderboard. There's also in-game feedback where you can submit and upvote feature requests. Building all these little features has been a great excuse to put in reps with AI coding tools and try out new stuff like Gastown. You'll need a desktop and keyboard to play. Try to beat my high score! Would love feedback on what to add or what's broken... we'll ship the best suggestions. Thanks and have fun!

    made a html5 game, polished it many many times2011 · hotbazooka.com · ▲211

hi all, I've always wanted to make my own game, but couldn't afford a thousand-dollar adobe (flash+photoshop) license. I'm not a talented programmer, have no degree in CS. But I understand some elements of design. So I got me a copy of ImpactJS, and after about 5 months of steep learning curve (at least for me), I managed to come up with a game. I also integrated it with a highscore and badge system, similar to what you get at Kongregate. You need to login with Google/OpenID to earn badges/scores. link is: http://www.hotbazooka.com/privatejoe hope to hear some feedback/questions from you guys!

I hated how much my 12-year-old played Roblox, so we built our own FPSJul 2026 · cooked.house · ▲23

I'm a father of two, 7 and 12. They are obsessed with Roblox, especially Rivals. Like a lot of parents, we did not love it. We tried the usual things: block it, limit it, set timers." It became a daily battle, a lose-lose situation. So I flipped the problem. Instead of fighting what they loved, I decided to lean into it, but with a twist. Why just play an FPS when you could build one together? My kids became the PMs. Claude and I became their engineer. I was shocked by how fast we moved. We picked a name, Cooked and started building. Get in. Lock in. Get cooked! In the first 3 hours, we had…

    I built a toy that plays grandma's stories when my daughter hugs itApr 2026 · storyfriend.co.uk · ▲9

This was a project I built for my daughter's first birthday present. For context, I'm a surgical resident in the UK by background and am currently taking a year out of training to study a masters in computer science. My daughter just turned one. There are two things she really loves: the first is particular soft toy that she just can't live without, and the other is a good story book. Her grandparents live hours away and I didn't want her to forget what they sound like between visits. I wanted her to hear them whenever she missed them. My parents brought my brother and I up with incredible…

    My wife and I built a Halloween game2023 · tremella.github.io · ▲9

Happy Halloween! Instead of going to a Halloween party this year, my wife and I decided to run a tiny Hackathon and built this little retro choose-your-own-adventure to pay tribute to a popular series of yesteryear. Try and escape! Also pumpkin mode!! We made liberal use of ChatGPT for code, DALLE3/Midjourney for images, but did most of the storyboarding/writing ourselves because we couldn't stand the style of GPT4/Claude.

    Play Solhopper – A Minimalist Game In ~500 Lines of HTML/CSS/JS2024 · solhopper.com · ▲5

Hi HN! I'm excited to share SOLHOPPER, a minimalist game I'm building in just ~500 lines of HTML/CSS/JS. Here's a breakdown of the development process and some fun quirks of the game: Challenges and Fun Facts: - World Building & Math: Crafting the initial world and refining the game mechanics to keep it simple and compact was the toughest part. The back story is that you play as a Solhopper captain traveling away from earth at 10% the speed of light to capture solar flairs which unlock endowments (bottom left) to develop that star system. These endowments were setup by benefactors…

    I left my FAANG job at 50 to build a sci-fi gameNov 2025 · ▲9

I am a 50-year-old who left a FAANG Engineering Manager job to build a sci-fi game. I just released Outsider, a sci-fi narrative game with multiple endings. If you want to support my work, the game is now 15% off (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3040110/). I've always wanted to create a game. I moved from Brazil to the US to work at Big Tech, but after a career of customer focus, mission alignment and 360-degree feedback, I wanted to experience solo game development. While FAANG can be soul-crushing at times, I had a great manager and an amazing team. The pay and…

Hey HN! I wanted to share something I built over the last few weeks: isometric.nyc is a massive isometric pixel art map of NYC, built with nano banana and coding agents. I didn't write a single line of code. Of course no-code doesn't mean no-engineering. This project took a lot more manual labor than I'd hoped! I wrote a deep dive on the workflow and some thoughts about the future of AI coding and creativity: http://cannoneyed.com/projects/isometric-nyc
