HanziHack: The Art of Memory is an illustrated book series that transforms the study of Chinese into a visual, logical, and lasting experience. Unlike traditional methods, it does not follow the HSK levels, but the number of strokes in each character. This order reflects how Chinese characters are truly built: the simplest ones become the building blocks for the complex ones. Each character becomes a meaningful image, paired with a short story that activates both visual and semantic memory. The mnemonic techniques used have been proven to enhance long-term memory, allowing you to retain what you learn naturally, without endless repetition. For centuries, Chinese writing masters used images…from hanzihack.com

Learning Chinese and Japanese with graphs and trees2024 · github.com · ▲9Just for fun, I built a language learning tool. It represents Chinese and Japanese as graphs of characters, with connections indicating given characters can form a word. It can also decompose characters to give clues on how they're pronounced, analyzes words to understand which ones are commonly used together, and more. It's fully interactive, supports offline use, generates flashcards, has sentences from humans and from AI, and plenty of other features. Check out the README for details. https://github.com/mreichhoff/HanziGraph
Hanzi StrokeNov 2025 · hanzistroke.com · ▲1Hi HN, I’m building Hanzi Stroke (https://www.hanzistroke.com) to solve a very specific problem: learning to write Chinese characters is unintuitive for non-native learners. Most learners rely on rote memorization, which is inefficient and often leads to incorrect stroke habits. While there are dictionary apps that show static stroke order diagrams, they lack interactivity. The key to muscle memory is deliberate practice with immediate feedback. So, I made a single-page application that provides: Dynamic stroke order animations for over 9,000 characters. Interactive canvas practice…

Tap on a character to reveal the strokes, radicals and components it has in common with the character you're trying to guess. This was designed mainly for learners but I'm curious to hear from fluent hanzi readers whether the game is too easy. The vocabulary is from the Chinese Vocab List project [1]. Character graphics and data are sourced from Make me a Hanzi [2]. There are 95 pre generated games at the moment which are randomly chosen, more will be added soon. Suggestions welcome! I made a built-from scratch Wayland Compositor to display any GUI app* in the terminal! I think there is a lot of unexplored potential in custom Wayland compositors, a lot of really cool things you can embed existing applications into! So, I started with embedding apps into the terminal because that is the easiest input/output (output is just utf-8 and I use the great `chafa` library for that, and I just read from stdin for the input). If you have any other ideas for cool Wayland compositors, let me know. I purposedly wrote 80% the app in Typescript to appeal to the most developers and…

Years ago I stumbled across a basic version of this concept and it stuck with me. I knew if I was ever going to take on such a project, it would need to be flawless, but without coding experience it was just another idea that would never happen. By the end of 2024, as AI coding tools exploded everywhere, I finally had a way to make it real. I started from zero knowledge and spent months collaborating with AI agents as a learning experience. Every pixel and every function went through me. The AI translated what I asked for into code, but every decision was human. I didn't use existing OS…
