Brainio

A Markdown notepad that turns every note into a visual map.

What it does

Brainio turns every note into a visual mind map. Write in Markdown, press Tab to indent and create branches, switch between text, split, and mind map views with one click. Built-in knowledge graph shows how all your documents connect. Collaborate in real time with live cursors. Link documents with bidirectional backlinks. Connect your AI assistant via MCP. We launched Brainio 5 years ago. We rebuilt it from scratch and made it completely free. No document limits, no paywalls.

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
