ByteTools API Directory
2,227 free APIs, 768 with curl examples that really ran
What it does
Most public-API lists copy their examples from a README that stopped working years ago. This one runs on one rule: on the 768 fully documented pages, the curl command and the JSON response are the real request and the real reply, and each page carries the date it was run. A verifier script re-hits all 768 endpoints in CI so the claim doesn't quietly rot. 2,227 APIs catalogued across 26 categories, 963 of which need no API key at all. No signup, no key of mine in the middle.
A directory of 2,200+ free public APIs across 26 categories. The most popular are fully documented with a working curl command, real captured JSON response…
A catalogue of 2,227 free public APIs, and — for the most popular ones — a full reference page we wrote after actually calling the endpoint. On those pages the curl command, the parameters and the JSON response are the real request and the real reply, not a copied README entry that stopped working years ago. Entries get re-run and re-dated. Follow newly tested APIs by RSS — no signup, no email address. Free weather APIs with working curl examples: hourly and daily forecasts, current conditions, air quality and city geocoding. No credit card, most need no API key. Free IP geolocation, address geocoding, postal code and time zone APIs with tested curl commands and real JSON responses. Most…from bytetools.bytevancer.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
